Publisher's summary

Rogue agent Ryan Drake faces deep regrets and only the slimmest shot at redemption....

Ryan Drake is incarcerated at a Black Site in an unknown location. Bruised, naked and freezing on the floor, he has nothing left. His plot to assassinate the treacherous Marcus Cain - the deputy director of the CIA - failed, and now Drake must face the consequences. But Cain needs information even more than he wants to take Drake’s life. The whereabouts of the mysterious Anya are unknown, and so she remains a threat, both to herself, and to Cain’s ruthless ambitions at Langley and beyond. He knows she’ll give everything to get Drake free, but can he know what - or rather who - she’s ready to take?

Another great book

I’m extremely enthusiastic about this series. This entry was pretty good but honestly nothing as good as Sacrifice or Betrayal.
This book really felt like filler. The main story was a big rush that lead to a conflict between A and C. However there’s no payoff for all the tension. In the end neither one dies. A and R are back together. C ends up hellbent on killing then both which isn’t any different than when they started(how every book started).
I miss Cole and Mason.

glocks don't have safeties

all In all this series is pretty awesome. he goes into a little to specific on details about weapons and such. which is why I'm writing this review. he specifically mentioned a glock 26. and the Cia operative flicking off the safety as she drew it..... well glocks do not have mechanical safeties. just annoying little thing about his hyper specificity on gun types.

Best Ryan Drake so far

Both action packed sequence and heart breaking revelations, this one has it all. Great combination of old and new characters.

Not as good as the previous.

Too far fetched with much confusion about what is happening. Too many clusters of action not well explained.

Disappointing

Seven books in and series reads like a Marvel comics movie. Hoped for better Drinker

Weakest book od series so far

I've enjoyed every book so far in the series. Some have been better than others, but they have all been solid. characters developed over time and seemed like old friends or at least people you know and could empathize with.

Then we have this book. Though the last few books have left me with questions about motives of some characters, and how they seemed to have changed, this book threw most everything out of the window. Characters not acting like themselves, overly used deus ex machina moments, and plot lines that feel like they were made as a Rube Goldberg contraption.

My biggest gripe is that the plot moves along with events that would require a soothsayer to predict, but are written as if they were deliberately planned. The "problem" parts were so jarring that they pulled me out of the story.

Narration was on par, and I enjoyed that much. I'm actually debating going any deeper in this series, because I fear the story has "jumped the shark" as so many movies that end in III, IV, X and so on. Sometimes the train just runs out of track, and the author needs to put the story to bed. I'm feeling like we may have reached that point.

I'll give the next book a shot, but it will take something special dor me to stick with this. I sincerely hope Will Jordan saves this.
