Publisher's summary

"Becoming a Dodge Tank was just the beginning."

The world boss is defeated, but Ryan’s troubles are far from over.

Transported to a new world, Ryan and his friends must figure out how to save their home city of Citadel while learning to survive in a game world where death is now all too real.

But first, Ryan must keep his promise to Val Helena, and he sets out on a dangerous quest to the Vale of Sorrows to defeat the Shadow King. With an enemy 10 times stronger than a world boss, Ryan will have to do some serious leveling up as a Dodge Tank to be fit for task.

But when he encounters a fellow gamer with an agenda of his own, Ryan finds his plans not only derailed, but his very life threatened by an enemy of his own making!

Ryan will have to grow in both level and maturity to face the difficult struggles ahead. But the game has more secrets to reveal, and the enemy lying just below the surface may be more terrifying than anything he could have imagined.

Almost great

90/100. I have to knock off a few points for the cliche story arc.. goody goody MC, doesn't do what he needs to do, it comes back to really hurt him. Tired, easy, and ultimately lazy story development with Braxis. Would have been 5 stars without that branch of the story, which I'm sure is a large part of book 3, which is the saddest part.
With that being said, I still recommend this book and will be listening to book 3 when it comes out. Interesting mix of The Matrix and LitRPG.

amazing next book

you can really tell that the author wasn't just making something up to write another book. you need to read this one to continue the story. has more innuendo than the first book but nothing super graphic. first book had zero innuendo

Good to great

It was a very solid continuation to the series with a nice reveal as far as the larger world overall. But then the action ratchets up a notch and it becomes great. Solid 4.5 stars.

Love this story, want more

This is a really fun and exciting story, there is a lot of unknown and mystery and each little reveal is exciting! The characters feel like people and are just as flip floppy as my sibling and I are. I really love this take on a earth and man kinds struggle to survive.

Getting good!

I thought the first book was good. This is on a different level! It has more action and higher stakes. It's getting intense!

Book #1 average book. #2 gets a lot better.

Characters seem more realistic and dialogue improves from the first book.

The narrator does a good job.

Excellent advancement in the series

I really enjoyed book 2, the addition of the city management aspects was fun. The story continues its twists and turns, as well as keeping the crazy fights coming. I think of this book series as “what would you get if the matrix decided to do a game world instead of 1999”

Good

Entertaining. All the brotherly love/sisterly love moments are cringe and a little unrealistic. I don't usually like novels with children as main characters because of the immature decisions. The story is pretty dark for a children's book but what do I know. If it wasn't for the somewhat dark story I'd probably have skipped it.
