About this listen

I hated Miles Crowe more than itchy socks, "namaste" puns on yoga tank tops, and chigger bites. Combined.

Twenty-six-year-old New Orleans native Elle Jones used to be the internet's most famous meme for rejection thanks to an embarrassing teenage TV appearance. But she's finally put that past behind her, and now she's killing it as a commercial real estate agent in the coolest neighborhoods in the city.

When Miles Crowe—the former pop star who made her notorious—insists on hiring her to find a property for his jazz club, she'll do everything she can to get herself fired before he realizes who she is.

But Miles has grown up too, and Elle soon discovers that he is as passionate about the city as she is . . . and even sexier now than he was then. Will she risk exposing her humiliating past to claim a future with the guy who once nearly ruined her life?

questionable ending

I liked this but I wasn't convinced the male MC had grown enough. I felt like the female MC had a relationship with an almost reformed narcissist.

A fun, vivacious main character

A neat book, with a relatable main female character. It's a fun, clean listen. I would recommend to any age person.

Interesting story with a sweet HEA. Loved it how shows how social media can make an impact…not always good…hopefully making people think before they post.

Really great

First book I listened to by this author. It was really great! I liked hearing about New Orleans, its history and culture and about food . I loved the characters and how their story built over time. It was engaging and good character development. No complaints!

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
26-year-old New Orleans native Elle Jones used to be the internet's most famous meme for rejection thanks to an embarrassing teenage TV appearance. But she's finally put that past behind her and now she’s killing it as a commercial real estate agent in the coolest neighborhoods in the city.

When Miles Crowe—the former pop star who made her notorious—insists on hiring her to find a property for his jazz club, she’ll do everything she can to get herself fired before he realizes who she is.

But Miles has grown up too, and Elle soon discovers that he is as passionate about the city as she is…and even sexier now than he was then. Will she risk exposing her humiliating past to claim a future with the guy who once nearly ruined her life?

MY TAKE
I haven't read a Jacobson book I haven't loved, and So Not My Thing is no exception. My heart broke for what Elle (aka Gabi) went through as a teen. Those years are hard enough but adding on the heartless online treatment by the trolls in the world would have made it unbearable. I totally understood why she wanted to keep the meme tragedy of her past from her adult life.

Enter Miles Crowe, teenage heartthrob, who inadvertently ruined her adolescence all those years ago. He's not the clueless idiot anymore, but who's going to know based upon the temperamental divo reputation he gained all those years ago.

Elle's a real estate agent, and he's looking to open a jazz club. During a meeting with her company, he senses about her his own reservation for the properties being proposed and pushes to have her assigned as his agent. All she has to do is make him mad enough to fire her but not her company.

My heart went out to Miles. I've been that idiot teen with entitlement issues too. Like him, I outgrew it. He's really a great guy now. As Elle comes to find this out, the romance that grows is delicious. But there are still a load of obstacles to overcome, including a meme that's just waiting for an excuse to blow up again--and all the old wounds it created.

I listened to Alexa read me the book when it first came out. When I heard there was an audiobook, I grabbed a copy. The narrator, Jorjeana Marie, did a fabulous job! My husband listened to some of it as we worked together. By the end, he was crying. :D

The story was great with one drawback...

I loved this story! It was funny and CLEAN, but it did get a little slow for me towards the end. That's not the drawback, though. THAT has to do with the fact that the phrase "this space" was used CONSTANTLY! I mean, I get it. She's in realty, but I hear that phrase so much at work (higher ed) that I ended up with a nervous tick. Jorjeana Marie did FANTASTIC, however. Her voice for Miles was... whew! *fans self*

A beautiful story of love

Miles and Elle’s story is a romantic story in a very romantic city full of history. This is an multifaceted history that includes the great music from the Crescent city. The two main characters are musical artists, one famous and one reluctant. Because of adolescent embarrassment by meme that came from awkward 14 year old Elle’s breakdown because of her crush and adulation for young 16 year old Miles, she lost her love for performing. The story starts 12 years later as she is a successful beautiful commercial realtor and guess who comes to her firm looking for commercial real estate. He has no idea who she is or their connection from past. The romantic story that follows has many ups and downs but is always entertaining. Another great book by Melanie Jacobson and performance by Jorjeana Marie. I would highly recommend.

Delightful

This was a very unique and fun second chance romance. It was also kind of a redemption story. I thoroughly enjoyed the process of love and redemption for Miles and Elle…and very much look forward to the stories of the supporting characters with, I hope, updates on Miles and Elle. The audible narration was also very well done.

Sweet contemporary rom-com

I loved the setting of this second chance rom-com. The music, food, and culture of New Orleans made this a super fun book. The narrator brought the story to life with her inflections.
