Ousamequin, c'est l'histoire d'un petit garçon indien qui voit des choses que les autres ne voient pas. Lorsqu'il parle de ce qu'il voit, on ne le croie pas. On le prend pour un fou. Sa mère évite le sujet. Quant aux autres enfants, ils se moquent et deviennent même violents à son égard. Alors qu'il se croit fou et perdu, abandonné par Dieu, un homme va l'aider. Et ainsi, petit à petit, ce petit garçon va accepter ce qu'il est.
L'auteur nous décrit là une Amérique très raciste, sûr de son droit d'être là et de dépouiller les Indiens. Cette Amérique-là est très dévote et il n'y a nullement la place pour la magie des Indiens.
La plume de l'auteur est très agréable, et cette fiction nous est racontée comme un témoignage, ce qui m'a rendu plus réceptive à cette histoire. Il existe d'autres nouvelles dans cette série, que je découvrirais sûrement à l'occasion.

Dans cette nouvelle d'une cinquantaine de pages, nous lisons l'histoire d'un petit garçon indien qui voit des choses invisibles pour les autres. Quand il parle de ce qu'il voit, les autres enfants se moquent de lui, ne le croient pas. Il en est de même pour sa mère qui évite tout simplement le sujet. Au fil des années, Robert (car c'est son nom) est connu pour être le fou. Les moqueries et les violences envers lui ne font que s'empirer. Il finit par accepter le fait d'être fou, qu'il s'agit-là d'une punition divine. Jusqu'au jour où un homme vient le chercher pour l'aider à accepter sa réelle identité.
Lionel Cruzille nous décrit dans Ousamequin une Amérique très raciste, où les Indiens sont confinés dans des réserves ou tentent de s'intégrer aux Américains. Cependant l'Homme Blanc prend ses droits au-dessus de ceux des Amérindiens, allant jusqu'à le dépouiller de tous ses biens. Dans cette Amérique très croyante et dévote, la magie et les Esprits des Indiens n'ont pas leur place et ne sont que fabulations et histoires pour la race dominante.
L'écriture de l'auteur est toujours aussi agréable à lire. le fait que cette nouvelle soit écrite comme un témoignage (l'histoire De Robert raconté par lui-même, à la première personne) implique davantage le lecteur, le rend plus réceptif (on lui confie une histoire personnelle).
Il existe d'autres nouvelles de la série Sorciers que j'ai hâte de découvrir. D'ailleurs, dans quelques temps un recueil des nouvelles Sorciers va sortir. A sa sortie (normalement programmée au 10 août) jetez-vous dessus, vous ne serez pas déçus !!!
