Publisher's summary

Virgil Jones is in for the fight of his life. In recovery after being kidnapped and nearly tortured to death on his previous case, he is addicted to prescription pain killers, his life is spinning out of control and the governor has just fired him from his position as lead detective of the Indiana State Police Major Crimes Unit.

Twenty years ago James Pope was shot to death in front of his twin children, Nicholas and Nichole, by a rookie cop named Virgil Jones. Now, as young adults, the Pope twins are looking for revenge against the man they hold responsible for the death of their father.

Except 20 years is a long time and Detective Virgil Jones has a few other problems; the shooting of James Pope a distant memory.

The Governor's Chief of Staff wants to privatize the Indiana prison system and plans to fund the construction costs by tapping into the state's unclaimed lottery winnings. There's only one problem...the construction contract has been awarded to the father of the man responsible for Virgil's kidnapping and torture.

And don't forget the Pope twins. They want a little something else besides revenge. The state's lottery has hit an all-time high and with only days to go before the deadline, no one has claimed the money. The twins have a plan to walk away with the winnings and take down the people who destroyed their childhood all at the same time. But when Nicholas Pope goes missing and his apartment is found covered in blood, Nichole turns to the only person she can think of to help her: Virgil Jones.

To Thomas L. . Scott

I'm all up to date on Dr. Robert B. Parker, John Sandford and Michael Connelly and "Jonesing" for something good and Book Series in Order suggested State of Anger. I just finished number two. I can't believe there are more. As an Audible "reader" with 960 titles I was taken aback by Dan for maybe the first 30 minutes. He's perfect! Thanks for what I've had and what I have coming. This is GREAT stuff. It's not "like" the guys I mentioned. It's completely its own thing. I'm as excited as I was when I discovered Travis McGee 53 years ago.
Thanks, Dave.
P. S. I don't use libraries. I want my authors to make money.

Great Plot

Talk about a twist to a plot, seems everyone is out against Virgil. Hasn’t he had enough and how to heal and get off the med’s, Good riveting plot, I enjoyed the suspense of what was going to happen next to Virgil.
The audio added to the story of which I got ARC audio for my voluntary review and my honest opinion

exceptional writing.

I can say enough about the characters. I love the story lines and the interaction. I hope you continue writing as you have a gift. The narrator is one of the best I have heard and I listen to alot of audible books. Thank you.

Amazing story!

This second book was every bit as good as the first! My husband and I have been listening to Mr. Scott's books and really enjoying them. I'm amazed by the fact that my husband has listened to the entire book as he usually falls asleep when he is sitting around, he likes to keep busy. We both have found that the stories have a way of pulling you in and you aren't able to stop because even if you know who is guilty you don't know the whole story. Mr. Scott takes you on a journey so fascinating that you don't want to miss anything because it could be a clue or lol it could be just to throw you off. I would encourage you to listen or read a book and see what you think. Just so you know I ignore the swearing and use of God's name as a swear word. God is my Saviour. I received a free code for this book from Audiobooks Unleashed to listen to on Audible. This review is my own honest opinion.
