Publisher's summary

[Contains explicit content] The outrageous, madcap, and oft-forgotten 1977 cult movie classic is now finally available as a multi-cast audio extravaganza. You ain't never heard anything like it! Oh, and it’s now a New York Times audio bestseller!

Bestselling author Mike Sacks (And Here's the Kicker, Poking a Dead Frog) has just discovered the original novelization of the long-lost classic movie, Stinker Lets Loose!

Mike has teamed up with director Eric Martin to adapt the novelization into a fully immersive cinematic audio experience, and an epic all-star cast has come together to introduce Stinker to a whole new generation of fans! It's Smokey and the Bandit meets Every Which Way But Loose meets Smokey and the Bandit Parts 2 and 3. Feel the thrill as Stinker teams up with old pals Boner and Jumbo, plus new friends Buck and Rascal the Chimp, for a crazy ride across the highways and byways of Bicentennial America and meets scores of beautiful Southern gals, reams of treacherous villains, and even the Big Man!

Will Stinker truly Let Loose? Or will Big Government and the Smokeys bring him down?

A loving send-up of a bygone era of trucker films and their beer-swillin', skirt-chasin', verb-shortenin' heroes, this audio adventure is a joyride in absurdity; with its rapid-fire jokes only matched by their total outrageousness. But enough of this jaw-jackin'. If you don't listen, then the joke's on you!

Now with a special bonus chapter! Enjoy a live performance of highlights from the audiobook, performed by a full cast of actors and musicians at SF Sketchfest. Tune into Chapter 50 for the full live show!

Editor's Pick

If Cannonball Run was an audiobook movie starring a countrified Jon Hamm
"Lovers of 70s road trip movies will be delighted and entertained by this fictionalized romp through Bicentennial America. It’s the story of an equally fictional cult-classic film about a trucker named Stinker (Jon Hamm) whose mission is to deliver a six-pack of Schlitz beer to the president. If the concept alone doesn’t pique your interest, the voices in it surely will: Andy Richter (Conan), Philip Baker Hall (Magnolia), Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), and Paul F. Tompkins (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) deliver unforgettable performances." —Courtney R., Audible Editor

One of the best things on audible.

Where does Stinker Lets Loose! rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've been a audible member since 2011 and Stinker Lets Loose! is easily one of the best things I've listened to on here.

Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?

Jon Hamm and the narrator Eric Martin are great. Both nail the tone of a 70s smokey and the bandit type movie. The accompanying music is also pitch perfect.

Any additional comments?

Hopefully Audible does more with Stinker or at least more Jon Hamm.

It's everything any beer-swillin', chimp-loving, truck-driving, foul-mouthed mountain-man needs

If you even remotely enjoyed Smokey and the Bandit or Any Which Way But Loose, or if you just need to brush up on your CB lingo, this is your book.

When your get to Chapter 49 and wonder "how could there be 90 minutes left?" ... Just take a moment to hit pause and prepare yourself for what's coming.

Because of you liked chapters 1-49 ... You're going to love 50.

Just Listen! Freakin’ Hilarious

First of all, Jessica McKenna absolutely steals the show as Buck. With only speaking in “cuss words” her performance was brilliant.

But so was everyone. I kept thinking this couldn’t be real, and maybe it isn’t. But I was laughing out loud while running or walking the dog. Jimmy Carter, Truckers, the 70’s: this was a blast from the past, sending me back to my pre-teen years!

The live performance at the end was even more fun, especially with the Christopher Walken sound alike.

Just great comedy. I wish I had seen this movie!

non-stop fun

‘Stinker Lets Loose” is a non-stop fun ride from Georgia all the way to the White House. With a distinctly 1970’s feel to it, the story is outrageous and definitely not PC. Why is there a monkey in this story? Why is there a 200 lap road race in the middle of the book? Why is Stinker going to deliver a 6 pack of Slitz to the President? I don’t know but its fun. If you just want something outrageous (without much of a plot) to take your mind off things for a while I can’t recommend this enough.

The various cast make this book even better and really bring it to life. I wish I could find the movie!

Take the intro to heart and listen to this with another era in mind

Stinker lets loose starts off strong and funny, then slowly, towards the end, becomes a bit predictable. It’s peppered with humour from a bygone era that didn’t value respect towards others or women. But you can really judge this book with our current era in mind. Just sit back, enjoy and cringe. The cast is fantastic.

Sometimes less is more

About an hour and a half in, my only reason to keep listening was to give this book a single star and write a legitimate read-the-whole-book review. I was simply going to say “sometimes less is more.”

However, after the book finished with and hour and a half left in the recording there was an abridged live reading of the book. I didn’t want to put myself through the story again but could not look away. As the live reading went on, I decided to give the book two stars and then three.

I would not recommend purchasing this book. However, if you find yourself with it, do yourself a favor and skip to about an hour and thirty-three remaining, and just listen to the live read.
