Publisher's summary
NY Times Critic’s Pick
As a precocious kid who took Broadway by storm at the age of 18, Laura Benanti spent her formative years playing grown-ups onstage, but it took her a while to figure out how to be one in real life. With her razor-sharp wit and unapologetic candor, Benanti shares her hard-won insights on topics like marriage, motherhood, perimenopause, female friendship, and making peace with the younger versions of ourselves. Whether you’re a mom juggling a million responsibilities, or just anyone trying to navigate the complexities of becoming a person that you’re proud of—prepare to laugh until you cry as Benanti skewers the societal expectations and double standards that so often leave us feeling like “nobody cares”.
Punctuated with five original songs co-written by Benanti and Todd Almond, Laura Benanti: Nobody Cares was recorded live during a sold-out run at the Minetta Lane Theater in New York City.

Myrna, Leonie, and Chrissy meet every Thursday to sample fine cheeses, to reminisce about their former lives as professors, and lately, to muse about murder. Decades ago, a vicious cabal of male poets contrived—quite publicly and successfully—to undermine the writing career, confidence, and health of their dear friend Fern. Now, after Fern has taken a turn for the worse, her three old friends decide that it’s finally time to strike back—in secret, of course, since Fern is far too gentle to approve of a vendetta.

World War II is the defining conflict of the 20th century, one that created a line in the sands of history dividing the pre-war and post-war eras. In this epoch-defining conflict lies another definitive moment: the invasion of a 50-mile stretch of coast in Normandy, France, on June 6, 1944. This battle, also known as D-Day, was the pivot point of the war in Europe. Its success led to a nearly yearlong, bloody campaign that saw the liberation of France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands, followed by the final defeat of Hitler’s Third Reich.

Story
Midway through his life, the artist G begins to paint upside down. Eventually, he paints his wife upside down. He also makes her ugly. The paintings are a great success. In Paris, a woman is attacked by a stranger in the street. Her attacker flees, but not before turning around to contemplate her victim, like an artist stepping back from a canvas. At the age of twenty-two, the painter G leaves home for a new life in another country, far from the disapproval of her parents. Her paintings attract the disapproval of the man she later marries.

Story
It was 1970 in a defeated Rhode Island fishing town. Vietnam and Nixon dominated the national news. Both the near and distant future looked bleak. But they were five inseparable high school friends with something incredible in common: an unwavering resolve to look after each other no matter what hell life threw at them. And they were on a mission. The plan was simple: Go off the grid before they turned 18 to avoid the draft. They’d sell some grass, stack some cash, then head west and start a commune. What could possibly go wrong?

the best special I've listened in a while
I've been a fan of laura for a long time now, I consider her to be my role model and yet she always manages to surprise me (in the best way possible), this show made me laugh, cry and reflect all in the span of an hour and 12 minutes... I appreciate the fact that this was recorded for those who couldn't attend the show because this deserves to be listened (and enjoyed) by everyone

Nobody cares.. It’s true!
I’ve never had a child but understand the need to be liked and giving up so much of myself. Nursing was probably the closest I came to feeling a deeper kind of connection. Loved it! Out loud laughter in my one bedroom lonely apartment. I do have 2 cats!

A Phantasmical One-Woman Tour de Force
What a way to make your life's journey and your life's lessons into a funny, brilliantly delivered romp! It's funny, gripping, and enlightening, and smart. If the whole well-adored, highly accomplished Broadway actress thing doesn't work out, she's got a future in stand-up. ;-)

Hilarious, honest, and moving
This amazing 80 minutes of delight is part comedy, part therapy, part musical entertainment, and a whole lot of honest, real-life experience as a human being. No matter who you are or what your story is, you can find something in Laura’s vulnerable stories that will make you think “Yes, you see me.” Be prepared to laugh out loud, feel a little bit challenged or convicted, and then have tears in your eyes all within 60 seconds, over and over again.

Kept getting better
I didn’t know who Laura was. I just wanted something quick to listen to and it sounded appealing enough. I started listening and for about 5 minutes was thinking I won’t like this but I kept listening and I am so glad I did. It was fabulous. I related to so many of her stories, I laughed and even cried. Really good.
