Publisher's summary

My name is Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Conjure by it at your own risk. I'm a wizard. I work out of an office in midtown Chicago. As far as I know, I'm the only openly practicing professional wizard in the country. You can find me in the yellow pages, under Wizards. Believe it or not, I'm the only one there.

With rent past due and a decent meal becoming an issue of some importance, Harry needs work, and soon. A call from a distraught wife, and another from Lt. Murphy of the Chicago PD Special Investigation Unit makes Harry believe things are looking up, but they are about to get worse, much worse. Someone is harnessing immense supernatural forces to commit a series of grisly murders. Someone has violated the first law of magic: Thou Shalt Not Kill. Tracking that someone takes Harry into the dangerous underbelly of Chicago, from mobsters to vampires, while he himself is under suspicion of the crimes.

Best Books Ever

I have read a lot of fantasy novels and these books are an easy read that you can not help but get swept up with the characters. James Masters does a great job narrating and as a huge fan i can say he is Harry Dresden the main Character. I live in Australia and the Audio books after book 4 are unavailable to Australian customers but i check almost daily for them that is how good they are. I hope to own the rest on Audio as i have all the books. These books may just change your life.

James Marsters makes Harry Dresden Come To Life

What made the experience of listening to Storm Front the most enjoyable?

The narration was so perfectly matched to this character that you feel like you are watching a TV show. I listened to this a long time after reading the book and it was as great as I remembered it. I can't imagine anyone else doing the narration for this series of books.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Harry Dresden of course. He tries to be good and stay out of trouble but he cares too much about people to do this.

What about James Marsters???s performance did you like?

It just seems like he is Harry Dresden. It was a perfect match.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I wanted to but my time constraints would not let me.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Been a while and couldn't really remember much of, I enjoyed it the second time at least as much as the first!

Refreshing and funny

The narrative voice is a rare gem-extremely funny, candid, and oddly relatable considering it comes from a wizard. It's a great first book that I expect leads into a fabulous series.

Good potential

If you could sum up Storm Front in three words, what would they be?

Hammett meets Correia

What about James Marsters’s performance did you like?

Marsters is great -- not only because he is Spike (and the intonations are clearly heard), but also because he doesn't overact, he simply reads. He doesn't do too much voice acting, except where necessary, but the minor inflections are enough to make the book come alive.

Any additional comments?

It is a good start but not a great book. Has enough potential to try another one.
Sometimes the words (epithets) are repeated too close together, and some of the main characters decisions are too dumb to be true. Hopefully, Butcher clears up his act in further installments.

Great entertainment.

This book had me drawn in right from the first chapter! Probably one of the better fantasy books I've come in contact with. The descriptions are a little over the top at times, but there good. the characters are well fleshed out, the plot absolutely ravishing. Good reader too. I'm going straight i onto the next one!

Decent book

If you could sum up Storm Front in three words, what would they be?

inconsistent, decent, swallow -

What did you like best about this story?

Nice plot with a few twists

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Not always

Any additional comments?

Decent book. Narrator needs to swallow his saliva more often, his reading sometimes was annoyingly wet.
The plot of the book is ok, keeps it interesting. The power capabilities of the main character and his jumps for super naive to super experienced is sometimes frustrating.

Great book; just ok narration

The narration is a bit rough. Also there are to many spots where you hear the recording static. Could be better....
