Publisher's summary

Adventure. It's what my boring life is missing, so when I fall through a portal into another world, I'm excited. Here, I'm important. Here, I'm special.

I find out just how special when I meet Death. He's been exiled to the mortal realm to work through his flaws, and he's just as spoiled and awful as you'd think. Rhagos, the Shadow Lord, is arrogant and rude and controlling and demands to get his way. He's selfish. He's impossible.

He's also utterly gorgeous. Magnetic. Lonely. And strangely protective of me.

Thanks to a magic bond, I now serve him as his anchor to the mortal realm. It means that I'm his conscience, his guide...and the target for any assassin or glory-seeker. After a few days of this, I'd rather go home than continue on this adventure.

As the world falls down around us and we're hunted simply for existing, I find myself wondering what it'd be like to serve the lonely god of death...in all ways. To kiss him. To touch him. To bed him.

Except...I'm supposed to be finding a way home, not trying to kiss Rhagos. No matter how tempting he is. No matter how much he stares at my lips. No matter how much I want it.

Contains mature themes.

I love Ruby Dixon, but this is not my favorite. 😟

I absolutely love her Ruby Dixon and have read every book she has written. she cannot write them fast enough for me. unfortunately, I could barely make it through this book. I absolutely could not stand their heroin. I'm going to power my way through it because I know the next book in this series will be fantastic and it will have a few tenuous links to this book, but Max is pathetic. it might not be so bad except for the length of the book. I could probably tolerate her attitude for about half as long. it is almost like Max is trying to be pathetic. anyways, I cannot wait till the next book because I'm sure Ruby will make me fall in love with those characters all over again.

The BEST romantasy book about gods!

This series is as good as ACOTAR series! Ruby created this amazing story of gods and their anchors, and also made the best lore she wrote so far. I highly recommend this book and third series for any romantasy aficionado ❤️

Love this series - Worth the credits!

This series is Dixon’s best!
Real personalities with real reactions. Complex story with many plot points. Realistic emotional/relationship development. Overall, believable characters that make the story so much more enjoyable than most books out there.
I’m excited for the next books in this series!
Great narration, too.

Unique mythos and sweet romantic story

I tend to like most of Ruby Dixon’s tales but this series might be my favorite. It’s a really unique sort of fantasy premise that I am eager to see play out in other books. This one was a little tougher at the start than the first book but once you understand why - it keeps you hooked. Max is such a sweet optimist and Raagos such a dark and brooding hero. Also the side characters in this book are super intriguing. I’m hopeful that Kasaam‘s story is next.

So very GREAT 😊

I must admit Ruby Dixon is my most favorite author! She knows romance, humor and love, always perfect for happy feelings.
This series is absolutely one of the best.
(Own all her books because I always read them again, a couple of years and I read them over.)

I do so love this series ♥️

The story of the god of the Dead Rhagos and his beautiful mortal anchor Max from the Earthen web. My favorite god in myths when I was young was always the god of the under world. I always felt he was over looked and treated poorly. I can’t imagine how lonely it must be no one loves death. And this story touches on all of that Max was sometimes annoyingly naive but over all a woman who saw Rhagos as a male and not just a god. She saw his pain and understood the ends he went to I order to not be alone. Doesn’t mean she agreed but she understood. What does a god need ? A partner that is unafraid , one that will pull him in when he’s acting like a petulant child and one who will see beyond what he is and love who he is. This was another great book in this series and I can’t wait to revisit it. The narrator did a wonderful job with the characters even though I’d have loved it even more if there was a make and female voice I think k it would have made the story even richer. Highly recommend

Good follow up book

Overall I really liked this story. Max drove me crazy, but that had a lot to do with the character having a lot of TSTL moments and the narrator choosing a whiny nasally voice for her. Ruby Dixon is a very talented author and even when I’m not 100% on board with a character I still enjoy the overall story. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
