Publisher's summary

Welcome to everyone who wants to know more about the heart and heart problems!

You have probably heard that heart disease is the number one killer in the U.S. Odds are we all know a person who has had heart disease and if we live long enough, we will probably all have some degree of it ourselves. I know you have heard terms like heart failure, heart attack, and much more. You may not have fully understood those terms, but no problem, we will take care of that. After reading this book you will understand much more about the heart, and the problems associated with it.

In this book I will assume you don’t have any anatomy and physiology training. This won’t matter but if you do, we will build upon it. The material will be covered in a way that anyone can understand it. I have included as many pictures as possible to illustrate what is discussed. Anytime we can visualize what we read, we are more likely to understand and remember it.

What is our goal? To understand more about how the heart works, heart disease, and how we can help prevent it. What good is knowledge if we can’t apply it in our lives?

Take the topics in the book one at a time. There is no test and no time limit on what you will read. If you or someone you know has a problem with the heart, odds are it will be something you can find in this book. What we see here will account for most all problems related to heart disease.

Refer back to this book when you need to and share this information with others. If we understand what the problem is, and what is happening to us, we will better know what to ask when we speak to a health care provider. Don’t forget this advice. When speaking to a physician, ask as many questions as you can and make someone answer them. If they can’t, go somewhere else.

I have published college level study guides on Human Anatomy & Physiology, Histology (the study of tissues), children’s books on Human Anatomy and Physiology, children’s education and more. My work is available on Amazon.com. Search “Harrell anatomy” and my books should be visible.

How this book is set up.

I want to tell you first how this book is arranged, so you can go straight to the section you need. There is no need to read this book from start to end, but a better understanding will be gained if you do. If you know the particular topic you want, then jump straight to it and you will get your answer and then come back later and read more in a previous section to gain a deeper understanding.

At the beginning of each section, you will see these bold titles.
In Summary. This will give you a short summary of the section. Refer to this for a reminder and the most basic information.

In Detail. This will give you more information, so you can better understand the section.
