Publisher's summary
In the more than 15 years since its publication, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People has become an international phenomenon. Tens of millions of people in business, government, schools, and families have dramatically improved their lives and organizations by applying the principles of Stephen R. Covey's classic book.
The world, though, is a vastly changed place. The challenges we all face in our relationships, families, professional lives, and communities are of an entirely new order of magnitude.
Being effective as individuals and organizations is no longer merely an option. But in order to thrive, innovate, excel, and lead in what Covey calls the new Knowledge Worker Age, we must build on and move beyond effectiveness. The call of this new era in human history is for greatness; it's for fulfillment, passionate execution, and significant contribution.
Accessing the higher levels of human genius and motivation in today's new reality requires a sea change in thinking. The crucial challenge of our world today is this: to find our voice and inspire others to find theirs. It is what Covey calls the 8th Habit.
So many people feel frustrated, discouraged, unappreciated, and undervalued, with little or no sense of voice of unique contribution. The 8th Habit is the answer to the soul's yearning for greatness, the organization's imperative for significance and superior results, and humanity's search for its "voice". This groundbreaking audiobook of next level thinking gives a clear way to finally tap the limitless value-creation promise of the Knowledge Worker Age.
Covey's new audiobook will transform the way we think about ourselves and our purpose in life, about our organizations, and about humankind. Just as The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People helped us focus on effectiveness, The 8th Habit shows us the way to greatness.
NOTE: On the cover and in the introduction, the audio mentions that a free bonus DVD is included. It is NOT included with this audio; however, you're able to stream the content for free after signing up at the following FranklinCovey website: www.StephenCovey.com.

Stephen R. Covey believed there were only two ways to live: a life of primary greatness or a life of secondary greatness. Through his classic books and seminars, he taught that the intrinsic rewards of primary greatness - integrity, responsibility, and meaningful contribution - far outweighed the superficial rewards of secondary greatness - money, popularity, and the self-absorbed, pleasure-ridden life that some people consider "success".

Near the end of his life, Covey felt there was a final component to his work: How do you live your best life no matter your age? Live Life in Crescendo is Covey’s directive to live life in crescendo, meaning to continually grow in contribution, learning, and influence. In the same way that music builds on previous notes but leaves us anticipating the next note, a life builds on the past but unfolds in the future.

They actually have vastly different styles and backgrounds. Yet despite their differences, great managers share one common trait: They don’t hesitate to break virtually every rule held sacred by conventional wisdom. They don’t believe that, with enough training, a person can achieve anything he sets his mind to. They don’t try to help people overcome their weaknesses. And, yes, they even play favorites. In this longtime management bestseller, Gallup presents the remarkable findings of its massive in-depth study of great managers.

Stephen M.R. Covey has made it his life’s work to understand trust in leadership and organizations. In his newest and most transformative book, Trust and Inspire, he offers a simple yet bold solution: to shift from this “command and control” model to a leadership style of “trust and inspire.” People don’t want to be managed; they want to be led. Trust and Inspire is a new way of leading that starts with the belief that people are creative, collaborative, and full of potential.

Inspirational stuff as usual from Stephen Covey. No short cuts, no quick fixes but some great advice on how to achieve great things. Not just thought-provoking, also action-provoking, a guidebook for living. Covey also has a good voice for delivering his work which makes the book very enjoyable listening.

Finding Yourself Through Principles and Boredom
If you are looking for a book to help you find meaning in your work and personal life, consider this book. Mr. Covey conveys many well-known principles in a way that will cause you to evaluate who you currently are and who you strive to become. It was a great refresher of the principles that Mr. Covey taught in The Seven Habits. However, it's just that. A refresher. Don't buy this book expecting a revelatory insight on what he forgot from The Seven Habits. Rather, his is more of the same and functions like a review course.
As someone who has read The Seven Habits, this book was a struggle to finish at times. There were many times when I was convinced that he had plagiarized his previous work. There were many other times when I felt like he was padding the book out. Why is The Seven Habits and The Eighth Habit about the same size? Fluff. The Eighth habit has a lot of fluff, such as supplementary movies and a rehash of The Seven Habits. I liked this book, but I really wish that it was half the size.
I'm exhausted thinking about this book. There's something draining about reading it and thinking about it. I think I deserve the literally equivalent of candy (i.e. Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc). Or maybe I just need actual candy. Or.... why not both?
