Publisher's summary

The Killer left nothing behind but a rosary, a kitchen knife, and a dead man. But the dead man is a friend of Sabre Orin Brown. When his unsuspecting wife is accused of the murder, Sabre will stop at nothing to uncover the truth, even if it means unearthing chilling secrets.

From a San Diego jail to the shady Chicago nightlife, Sabre's search for the true killer forces her to face the question: What do you do when the ones you trust the most are the ones with the most to hide?

Is this the Meghan Kelly?

I have listened to Book 1 and 2. I really enjoy the stories. The plots are great and keep me curious about what's going to happen next. The narration is irratating at times. Ms. Kelly does fine distinguishing character voices but it would be wonderful to have a narrator that narrated a fight scene with some energy rather describing it like she's describing a golf game. I will order the next books in the series bc I'm curious ab the characters, but I'm not looking forward to her narration. Hopefully she's better by Book 3 or 4!

Great Ending!

Any additional comments?

This is the second book in The Advocate Series. I loved the first and this one is even better. I figured out who the antagonist was about halfway through, but I had no idea why until the very last line of the book. Read it, or listen to it, you won't be sorry.

Another Hit

Who was your favorite character and why?

You gotta love JP

Any additional comments?

Sabre is awakened in the middle of the night with a phone call from a good friend Betty, who has just found her murdered husband in their bed. Naturally she rushes to her aid, acting as a friend until she realizes that she should be thinking like the lawyer she is.
Earlier in the evening Sabre, Betty and Sabre's wonderful new boyfriend Luke had all gone to the casino. They weren't together the whole time so Betty doesn't really have an alibi.
The next day Sobs (derived from her initials Sabre Orin Brown) and her work husband Bob, agree to do everything they can do to help Betty, Both .working pro bono .
The characters Sobs and Bob worth with in juvinial court are so well described you want to either hate them, comfort them, or just shake your head in amazement.

Betty isn't very forthcoming with her past so Sabre's investigator JP, begins looking into things. His searches only lead to more confusion.
Nothing is as it seems and that gives the plot more twists and
turns than a carnival ride. The book is one of those books that I couldn't put down. I had to know what happened next. And what mystery would be complete without a surprise ending?
The narrator was excellent. The slight variations in her voice (different characters with a slightly different sound) made for an excellent performance.

Really enjoyable mystery

This was the second book in The Advocate series and I enjoyed it even more than the first. Sabre's friend Betty is accused of killing her partner John. With the help of JP as private investigator and her colleague Bob, both of whom were introduced in the first book, Sabre wants to prove Betty's innocence, but it soon becomes clear that Betty is hiding something.
There is a little sub-plot about Sabre's work as a child advocate, which I found really fascinating in the first book, but the main focus here is on Betty's case.
I really like all the characters, and it was nice to see that JP had a bigger part to play in this one. Love the interactions between Bob, Sabre and JP. While the mystery of who killed John was fairly obvious, I still enjoyed the way the author made the characters discover what was going on. I absolutely loved the ending. That was very nicely done.
The narration by Meghan Kelly was very good. I was especially impressed by how well she pulled off the male voices. Good pacing and enough distinction between the different characters made for a truly enjoyable listening experience.
I am a bit disappointed to see the narrator is changing yet again for the third book in this series. I was provided a free copy of the audio book in exchange for an honest review.

Plot was interesting enough.

Although I wasn't really into the writing style, I thought the plot was interesting enough to continue reading. The last third, especially, caught my attention, but it was very slow getting there. Far too much romance and I felt like the reveal was a bit out of left field. The most interesting characters were Bob and JP.

I listened to the audio version and I thought Meghan Kelly did a great job narrating the story. Her pace was a bit slow during the down moments, but her intensity was good during the more interesting parts. There are a few sound effects. They don't add anything to the story, but I didn't think they distracted too much, either.

Second Book in the Series - Better Than the First

If you could sum up The Advocate's Betrayal in three words, what would they be?

Non-stop thriller.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the first book, but this one (Book 2) was even better.

Have you listened to any of Meghan Kelly’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think Meghan Kelly did a better job with the narration - especially the voices.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Use the title - it fits.

Any additional comments?

Towards the end of the book I had a feeling how it was going to end. I was right, but the presentation was perfect.

Kept me Guessing

This is the 2nd one in the series and I enjoyed this one even more than the first. I can see where all my future credits will be going until I finish this whole series. I do wish there was one consistent narrator. Sometimes the narration seems robotic like, but I still enjoy the story. I did wish this one would follow up on an incident that happened at the Grand Canyon, and I was so surprised the author did not tie that episode up at the end. These books really deal with some sad case stories of children having to deal with very traumatic lifestyles, but the underlying mystery helps keep the reader from being overwhelmed by the sad stories. there are definitely plot twists, which is something I am always looking for in my mystery novels.
