About this listen

Beaten and battered in mind and body, the fugitives limp west, unaware that the human world is fading all around them, unaware that the last remnants of the goodness of man is being ground under the heel of evil at every turn. When confronted with that evil, fight or flight are their only choices, however, Neil's small group is hamstrung, forced to take on more refugees who come to them empty-handed, unarmed, and hungry. Neil is faced with the disturbing prospect of guiding them across 2,000 miles of zombie-plagued land, only to stumble at his first hurdle: the mighty Mississippi has become a river of death and, like the fabled River Styx, the only way to pass is to pay the river man his fee. His price: warm bodies.

Same story line

This is where I'm taking a break in the series. I actually already own the next 2 books, but it's been the very same story line since book 2. Someone gets kidnapped or is held hostage and the others have to save him or her. It's the same story over and over. In this book, someone gets kidnapped, they're rescued. Then others are kidnapped and they have to be rescued. Then yet again, more are kidnapped and they must be rescued. Then the book ends as one group is rescued, but the others are AGAIN held hostage. (There were so many kidnapping and rescues that I honestly lost count) You have to get the next book to see how the current hostages are rescued. At this point, I just don't care.
If Grey is the new Ram, give him some cajones and stop letting him wither every time the main bad guy tells him "if you don't give yourself up, I'll kill everyone." The whole "let's go talk to the bad guy and even though he's a slaver, torturer, rapist, sells babies to pedophiles, etc., I'm sure he'll be honest and keep his word........oh, he lied to us last time and took us hostage to torture us, but this time he'll keep his word and not capture us.......oh shucks, he took us hostage again and we escaped, but THIS TIME he'll keep his word, so let's go back and discuss this with him again" story line is just STUPID.
Oh, and there's very very little zombie action in this book.
Narrator did a superb job, as always.
And lastly, I love the new female character. I hope she sticks around.

Great characters and plot

I have listen to this series 3 times now and I enjoy it each and every time I find new things in it I think Peter Meredith has created some of the most interesting characters in not just zombie or apocalypse, but any novel in any category. If you purchase and listen to the first book in the undead series, I believe you will want. You will need to go through all of them. You won’t want to miss a thing five stars all the way. One more thing about this series is that each book isn’t for five hours long they’re good bowl substantial novels. Did you get your moneys worth? Thank you.

Jillybean!

great narrator!! of all the zombie apocalypse audible titles I've listened to (there are a lot of good ones) , this series has posibly the best story and certainly the best character development. These apocalyptic stories are often more about the human condition and response to crisis than they are about the "horror and gore" and Meredith has really nailed it with this series, you can't help but root for these characters and their struggle.

Yet again...

Another fantastic part in the series , i can’t wait for the next one. I listen to each book a month apart to prolong the journey. I feel like I would burn through these within a few weeks otherwise. Peter does a fantastic job setting the scene , I’ve never read a book and pictured it playing out , in my head with so much detail , like a movie. 10/10 fantastic!

Brilliant, I say! Brilliant!

This may be my favorite so far. Jillybean is once again at her peak performance! I love when a new character meets her and at first they think she's mental, and maybe a bit she is, but then they need her to save their lives!

Once again the audio in this is impeccable. I am so glad that Peter Meredith has stuck with Basil Sands throughout the series. Now that I am comfortable with all of the characters and their voices, another narrator would totally throw me off. Basil, yet again, sets a standard for which other audiobooks will be judged. The voices are on point, as are each inflection. I can never tell when the story is getting into a crescendo because Basil and Peter have me so sucked in, that everyone and everything else around me are null and void.

In this fourth book, Peter Meredith has continued right along with the series. He has added to the series with each book, so these must be read in order. Besides that, the characters are so fantastic that you will want to read them in order to get a real understanding of each of the characters. Especially since new characters are coming in all the time.

This one took me a bit longer to get into. It was not because the plot was not there, because it was, but because I had to give myself time. This starts at the same intensity that some books crescendo at! Intense does not even really embody how crazy this gets.

I do love the new characters. Some of them are a bit prissy. They have been taken care of and as such expect to be treated a certain way. They do not even know how to kill zombies. AND they judge Neil and Jillybean. Rude!

This one is hard to review without spoilers. I can say that this is my absolute favorite. The characters, the drama, the intensity! The plot is amazing. Once again ends on a huge cliff hangers with lives in the balance! Brilliantly done.

The only thing you'll want to do after reading this, is read the next one. Brilliant, I say! Brilliant!
