Publisher's summary
In midtown Manhattan, Mike Hammer, recovering from a near-fatal mix-up with the Mob, runs into drug dealers assaulting a young hospital messenger. He saves the kid, but the muggers are not so lucky. In a New York of flashy discotheques, swanky bachelor pads, and the occasional dark alley, Hammer deals with doctors and drug addicts, hippie chicks and hit men, meeting changing times with his timeless brand of violent vengeance.
Originally begun and outlined by Spillane in the mid-sixties, and expertly completed by his longtime collaborator Max Allan Collins, The Big Bang is vintage Mike Hammer on acid—literally. Hammer and his beautiful, deadly partner Velda take on the narcotics racket in New York, just as the streets have dried up and rumors run rampant of a massive heroin shipment due any day.

Everybody loves a mystery, and nobody solves them like Mike Hammer. While other detectives bend and manipulate the law, Hammer holds it in total contempt, seeing it as nothing more than an impediment to justice, the one virtue he holds in absolute esteem. Now, the no-holds-barred private eye returns, along with his gorgeous secretary, Velda, and a collection of New York City characters, in two fully dramatized "theater-of-the-mind" audio adventures.

Story
The image of bloodshed in his office remained etched in Mike Hammer's mind forever - his secretary sprawled on the floor and a stranger sitting dead and mutilated at his own desk. In one moment a storm of madness entered the private eye's life. As he starts hunting for the killer, Hammer is haunted by the message left on his desk: "You die for killing me." Suddenly, he is in too deep with a lethal blonde who has big ideas, a CIA secret, and another set of murders.

Story
Paul Madvig was a cheerfully corrupt ward-heeler who aspired to something better: the daughter of Senator Ralph Bancroft Henry, the heiress to a dynasty of political purebreds. Did he want her badly enough to commit murder? And if Madvig was innocent, which of his dozens of enemies was doing an awfully good job of framing him? Dashiell Hammett’s tour de force of detective fiction combines an airtight plot, authentically venal characters, and writing of telegraphic crispness. A one-time detective and a master of deft understatement, Hammett invented the noir crime novel.

Excellent Mystery Story
Very good Mickey Spillane mystery novel - narrated well by Mr. Keach. I enjoyed the narrative throughout the story, sometimes getting the feeling I perhaps was right there.

love a good private eye mystery.
Stacey keach is amazing. he has that Kevin Conroy (animated Batman) quality to his voice that makes any hard a$$ detective very attractive to listen to. story was on point and characters stayed true to their origin from point of introduction. it's a 5 star from me.

Reflect the conservative swing of view on crime of the era
Pedestrian hard boiled PI story with irritatingly boring - self indulgent tells of sexual exploits, lowbrow reactionary sociology in the same vein of Dirty Harry and Death Wish, betraying an angry white neanderthal acting tough to mask the fear of kissing control in what he considered as changing world.
