Publisher's summary

Revisit the packhorse librarians of Kentucky with this stunning companion to the New York Times best seller The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek.

In the ruggedness of the beautiful Kentucky mountains, Honey Lovett has always known that the old ways can make a hard life harder. As the daughter of the famed blue-skinned Troublesome Creek packhorse librarian, Honey and her family have been hiding from the law all her life. But when her mother and father are imprisoned, Honey realizes she must fight to stay free, or risk being sent away for good.

Picking up her mother’s old packhorse library route, Honey begins to deliver books to the remote hollers of Appalachia. Honey is looking to prove that she doesn’t need anyone telling her how to survive. But the route can be treacherous, and some folks aren’t as keen to let a woman pave her own way.

If Honey wants to bring the freedom that books provide to the families who need it most, she’s going to have to fight for her place, and along the way, learn that the extraordinary women who run the hills and hollers can make all the difference in the world.

Dear Listener,

Why did I decide to return to Troublesome Creek?
"I actually had no intention of returning to Troublesome Creek, or for that matter ever writing again after my husband and I suffered through The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek's tumultuous journey. I spent more than five years and 14- to 16-hour days writing that story, and while doing research I was seriously injured and my husband almost died. There were too many sacrifices and losses stacking up, so I made the heartbreaking decision that my writing journey had ended. After publication, I began receiving hundreds of letters from all over the world—letters from folks of all ages, from churches of every denomination, schools and universities and more, pleading for me to continue the family's journey. Two women even wrote how they had been so inspired by the story that they started bookmobiles in underserved areas at the height of the pandemic. One day, after months of receiving these moving notes, my husband came into my office with tears in his eyes and said, 'You must write the stories to honor your Kentucky people. Lift up other women.' I then began to realize it could be a healthy way for me to climb out of the personal grief I'd been wading through, and to do just that: celebrate and pay tribute to brave women." – Kim Michele Richardson, writer of The Book Woman's Daughter

I like to listen to books while I drive. I enjoyed The Book Woman. I loved The Book Woman’s Daughter! Honestly, I couldn’t wait to get in the car & hear more of the story. It’s a great story & very well read with a bit of Kentucky twang. ❤️

Another wonderful read!

I loved's Richardson's first novel, and this one is just as good, with more of an in depth picture of the Kentucky folk that I'm determined to meet first-hand one day. The author weaves history into a collection of chapters you will totally enjoy. I hope's Ms Richardson had another up her sleeve.

Loved This Book!

I love that when I saw the title I need Atlee wondered was it connected to the prayer book. I hadn’t checked the title of the author as the prior one with Miss Cassie was the first of this author that I had read. Once I read a part of the preview of this book I knew it was a must three. The prayer book let me down a road of googling Kentucky blues, etc. So this book was definitely a must read. I Waze through it in a matter of days and loved every moment of it.

Wow!!!

What a powerful story! It's perfectly written, unique, and with the absolute best narrator for the story! I can't recommend this book enough! It works fine as a stand-alone but is in intended as a continuation of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek. Definitely read that one first!!

Good sequel

I loved The Bookwoman very much, the sequel was almost as good. I love the lyrical, descriptive language of this author.

A Heartwarming Book/ Great for Book Club

I listened to The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek a few months ago and really enjoyed the book. I thought of the narrative often and have been searching for another good book that leaves you pondering. My girlfriends have also read it and we often talked about it! When I saw this new release, I was excited but expecting a book that did not deliver the way the first book did. Boy was I wrong! This book maybe better than the first book! It’s filled with history, feminism, and a love story. It’s an easy listen as it’s not ever too serious/intense, but has the right amount of thrill. It’s blends love and friendship into the storyline with just the right touch. I’ll be thinking of this storyline for awhile! I think this book and the first book would make excellent book club reads.
