Story
Bill Masen, bandages over his wounded eyes, misses the most spectacular meteorite shower England has ever seen. Removing his bandages the next morning, he finds masses of sightless people wandering the city. He soon meets Josella, another lucky person who has retained her sight, and together they leave the city, aware that the safe, familiar world they knew a mere 24 hours before is gone forever. But to survive in this post-apocalyptic world, one must survive the Triffids, strange plants that years before began appearing all over the world.

Story
Bill Nighy, Barbara Shelley and Peter Sallis are among the cast in six classic BBC Radio dramatisations of stories by one of Britain's most popular science fiction authors. 'The Day of the Triffids', first broadcast in 1968, is set in a world in which most people have been left blind after a meteor shower, and lethal carnivorous triffids are roaming the land. 'The Kraken Wakes', dramatised for radio in 1998, is a gripping story of monsters from the deep, alien invasion and ecological disaster.

Little does he realise that his own son, his niece Rosalind and their friends have their own secret aberration that would label them as mutants. But as David and Rosalind grow older it becomes more difficult to conceal their differences from the village elders. Soon they face a choice: wait for eventual discovery or flee to the terrifying and mutable Badland....

Story
Matthew is a normal 11-year-old boy living with his parents and little sister in Surrey. He's too old and sensible to have an imaginary friend really. Yet when Matthew's parents keep finding him talking and arguing with a strange presence whom Matthew calls Chocky, that's what they believe it must be…at first. But Chocky is oddly sinister, and keeps asking Matthew all sorts of complicated questions about the world and making him behave in unusual and erratic ways. Then Matthew suddenly does something heroic, well beyond his capabilities; the media become interested and the interest in Matthew widens.

This is a dynamic, modern dramatisation of a classic book by John Wyndham. Bill Nighy ( Love Actually and many other films) and Sarah Parish ( Cutting It) play Richard and Janet, a couple caught up in the goings-on of a sleepy English village in which all the children have golden eyes, blond hair, and a sinister talent for telepathy and telekinesis. Story
Though its red hue was unusual, there was no sign of apocalyptic doom with the appearance of the Krenton-Benton comet. The color was simply attributed to an abundance of dark ,carbon-rich material at its core. In its wake the comet left a vast cosmic dust cloud sweeping toward Earth. Scientists predicted nothing more unusual than a little temporary disruption of the planet's communication and broadcast systems.

And at the feet of its wise Masters, Lanoree Brock learned the mysteries and methods of the Force - and found her calling as one of its most powerful disciples. Now, from her solitary life as a Ranger keeping order across the galaxy, Lanoree has been summoned by the Je’daii Council on a matter of utmost urgency.

Story
David Strorm's father doesn't approve of Angus Morton's unusually large horses, calling them blasphemies against nature.

Story
In the sleepy English village of Midwich, a mysterious silver object appears, and all the inhabitants fall unconscious. A day later the object is gone and everyone awakens unharmed - except that all the women in the village are discovered to be pregnant. The resultant children of Midwich do not belong to their parents: all are blonde, all are golden eyed. They grow up too fast and their minds exhibit frightening abilities that give them control over others and brings them into conflict with the villagers just as a chilling realisation dawns on the world outside....

On the Isle of Wight, a colony of survivors wakes to a world plunged into darkness. Before long, the triffids, thought safely out of the way on the mainland, attack.... In John Wyndham’s classic best seller The Day of the Triffids the world has been overwhelmed by killer plants. As the novel ends, Wyndham’s narrator scientist Bill Masen is escaping, with his wife and four-year-old son, to the Isle of Wight where a small colony of survivors is holding out. (Wyndham's novel was filmed as Village of the Damned in 1960 and 1995.)

Story
The news is full of disturbing events today. There's war and rumors of war. There's the false recovery of the economy. Faith in the US economy is extremely low. Foreign banks have either slowed their purchases of Treasury Bonds or, in a few cases, begun unloading them. We have a current election that is rife with corruption, extreme partisanship, and outright fraud. It would appear the left in the country is ready to do about anything to see their candidate elected.

To mark the 50th anniversary of the publication of Solaris, Audible, in cooperation with the Lem Estate, has commissioned a brand-new translation - complete for the first time, and the first ever directly from the original Polish to English. Beautifully narrated by Alessandro Juliani ( Battlestar Galactica), Lem’s provocative novel comes alive for a new generation.

Alvin woke in a room that was not his, to discover that he had died and his brain had been bargained off cheaply to pay off someone else’s debt. It did not sit well with him. It didn’t surprise him that even in death, people were still using him for their own purposes. He had never exactly been a good guy, but everyone had their breaking point, and he had found his. The bastards in charge had uploaded his mind into a virtual death game. The whole world could now pay to see him play it and probably die. Regardless, he was not about to wait for death to come for him.

Day of the Triffids not Actually about Triffids
It was a fairly quick finish, so it was easy to commit to, but the so-called titular Triffids did not really factor into the plot as much as one might think. It was still an interesting take on a sci-fi apocalyptic scenario, but I was hoping to see more plant action in one where plants take over the world.

Good first audio book. Loved it !
The only things I have to critics is that the transition music is very loud compare to the narration volume but other then that it was a very good story telling and a perfect tone for an old book !

great story!
This is such a classic story, and a very well done adaptation...except that it REALLY could use some tweaking in terms of the sound quality. The music is piercing and painful in relation to the speech. It really was painful when I wasn't fast enough to turn down the volume between chapters, when the music cuts in... Whoever put this out should have that adjusted.

I only wish it were longer
I liked this fun but very un-pc tale. It was a short listen... Less than 3 hours but if you are fan of classic sci-fi this is a must. I can really see that people have borrowed plot devices from this story to make other modern horror films.
I think I would like it if audible would narrate the novel rather than just the radio program. It might be a tad longer. Overall, great

Good as the book?
Having read the book and also listened to another audio narration of this classic, I was looking foward to hearing it once again.
I can say that this dramatised version would appeal to those who prefer an enacted potrayal of the book rather than an accurate literary presentation.
My evaluation of this novel is born from appreciation of John Wyndhams' writing talent rather than attempted immersion in a dramatised rendition. I would have much preferred this story to be an audio book in it's truest sense.
