About this listen

Murder is a dish best served ice cold...

In the idyllic, small town of Dewstow, Margery and Clementine are eagerly awaiting retirement from their work on the front-line serving meals to the students at Summerview secondary school.

Their peaceful life is shattered when their kitchen manager is found dead in the school’s walk-in freezer. The police are adamant that it’s an open-and-shut case of accidental death. But Margery and Clementine are convinced that something more sinister is afoot and take it upon themselves to investigate.

As the dinner ladies inch closer to the truth, time's running out. Will the perpetrator get their just desserts or is everything just going to go down the pan?

A charming, cosy British mystery, The Dinner Lady Detectives is ideal for fans of Richard Osman's The Thursday Murder Club or Murder, She Wrote.

Hannah Hendy lives in a small town in South Wales with her long-suffering wife and two spoilt cats. A professional chef by trade, she started writing to fill the time between shifts.

Boring

It wasn’t worth the time spent. It never gripped me, it didn’t make me wonder, it became background noise. I thought there was way more effort put into being funny than who-done-it?

Great characters except one

I just finished the audible version of this book. I enjoyed the story and all the characters EXCEPT one of the main characters Clementine. I couldn’t stand her! Clementine clearly took advantage of most people in the book and I felt like she was just a BRAT! Margery was ABSOLUTELY salt of the earth and deserved so much better in a partner! I felt like Clementine began to redeem herself a little towards the end until the very end her interactions with one of the characters that was trying to help ( even though it may not have been the best way or the way Clementine thought was best -CONTROL FREAK) she NEVER even thanked this character! Honestly I would have given the book higher if it wasn’t for Clementine! I will give the next book a shot because I loved all of the other characters and maybe the author softened Clementines control issues..
We shall see!
God Bless
Elizabeth

Great Characters

Sweet cozy murder mystery w lovely characters and lots of twists and turns. The pace was quick and had lots of “options” for who the murder could be. Very Enjoyable!

Surprises at every turn!

I loved not being able to figure out the 'who dunnit'. It was well narrated too. I enjoyed it very much and look forward to reading more about this amateur group of detectives!

Cozy murder mystery

Checks every box for me. British, amateur sleuth, women protagonists, funny, and the perfect narrator. I can't wait to listen to the Christmas one.

Light summer reading

This mystery is not going to blow you away, but I liked the the easy pace and side stories of the characters. No horrifying violence, only one murder. If you’re in to cozy mysteries, it’s pretty good.

Adorable cozy mystery

Very cute story - easy listen and something light in between all of my other cold murder mysteries

Nothing Special Here

Ridiculous plot, well read by Jenny Funnell. By the time I reached the end of the book, which happened only after I increased the speed, I really did not like any of the characters and I really did not care about the solution. Ending indicated a next book, not for me!

Really??

Can’t wait for this author to age and realize that someone in their 60s is not elderly, frail and with dentures. Ridiculous

An okay story but not a series I would follow.

I liked that the focus was on the crime not romance. I don’t think the cursing was extreme but it wasn’t needed either.
