Emotional

The struggle Penny goes through is beautifully written and heartfelt in a way that feels gripping and real. I was immersed in her story and highly recommend it.

Fascinating character development

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I had been looking for a YA book with a heroin who was a little out of the norm--someone who maybe doesn't entirely have her life together and has a bit of a wild side. Penny definitely fit the bill. Penny has been struggling with vivid nightmares, so traumatizing that she will do anything to stop herself from sleeping. But her forced insomnia has everyone worried, and when her parents take her on a summer retreat, she struggles to keep her ahead above water while also spending time with a mysterious new stranger named Delsin.

I thought the character development in this book was fantastic, and I become hooked on the story. I wanted to find out what happened with Penny and Delsin, with her best friend Ollie. Mostly I wanted to find out how things would turn out with Penny, who always seemed to teeter on the edge of some kind of breakdown or outburst that kept me wanting to turn the pages. Delsin's story is equally compelling. Definitely recommended.

Unsuspecting Story

Would you listen to The Dream Catcher again? Why?

Maybe, I don't generally re-read, listen, or watch something more than once. If, I didn't have anything else to occupy my mind I would probably listen again.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Penny/Penelope, Her character takes you from a selfish teen only thinking of herself to experiencing trauma, to discovering her self and growing from it.

What does Miranda Stewart bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her tone is like in a scary movie or dramatic movie where the music keys you in that something is about to happen so pay attention.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes, the ending was so unexpected and heartbreaking that put me in a state of shock. Even after finishing the book, I still think about the characters as if this was a real life event.

Reoccurring Nightmare!

I've listened to almost every audio that Anya Monroe has available on Audible. I have come to enjoy Anya's stories and I look forward to listening to more stories author Anya Monroe writes. I must say that because I don't care for reading that I guess I'll have to wait for her to add more of her stories to Audible. I had problems with the lead character Penny as a started the story but as I continued to listen to the story I realized why she acted the way she did. I really liked her best friend Oliver, who happened to be gay but he was a very dedicated friend to Penny. This story was intriguing, unique, I felt it was mysterious, and filled with some twists and turns.

Miranda Stewart had a smooth and soothing voice although I didn't care for the voice that the narrator used when Penny was thinking to herself. I haven't heard this particular narrator before and her voice was a somewhat a bit monotone at times but with some more work Miranda Stewart could be a great narrator. I give the author Anya a perfect 5 stars but I have to give the narrator 4 stars for the way she worked her equipment and how it sounded fake at times. I still highly recommend that you should give this story a listen, you won't regret it.

Fabulous Book!

Narration - Miranda Stewart - narration was ok.
Maybe a little monotone at times, but her voice suited Penny.

This was an amazing book!
It is so NOT what I expected! Penny is a troubled teen suffering from horrible nightmares. Oliver is her best friend...her person!

He's gay and when he came out to his family, his parents had the stereotypical nasty response.

They spend the summer away in a small town near the lake with Penny's parents and both find acceptance in very different ways. This is a story about bravery, acceptance and love, but so many other things as well. I just can't tell you anything about it or it will ruin the story!

Go in blind! You'll love it!

The Edge

Different and a nice surprise.

As an audio book, first time hearing this particular narrator felt a little odd.
Monotone for a quite few times...

I'm used to get all tangled up with the story from the start, but this time was hard to feel it, blaming the way it was narrated...

When I overcome that, it went smooth, good paced story.

Not awesomely written, but it was really great! Refreshing and compelling.

What I liked the most, was Penny and Ollie's honest and hard friend relationship.
It's all about being brave, acceptance and of course, love.

Always on the edge, near an outburst.

I was immersed in their story and wonder what it would turn out in the end.

I was afraid of a bad or stressed fast ending, like many stories can go. It wasn't.

Dream Haunting

The Dream Catcher is a wonderful YA story to listen to. At the beginning of the story, the narrator, Miranda Stewart delivered the character Penny as a shallow teenager. I was ready to give up listening to the story but I wanted to give the story a chance.

Penny has tried everything from energy drinks to coffee to watching paid TV series to stay awake. From time to time, Penny would fall asleep and wake up screaming from her recurring nightmare. Her parents are completely oblivious to her situation and wrote it off as a teenager phase. Her best friend, Oliver (Ollie) is the only one that will support her.

Penny got herself into trouble with caffeine, her parents thought it would be better to take her to the woods to keep her from coffee, energy drinks, and anything that Penny was using to stay awake. In the woods, Penny met Delsin, a Native American.

As I was listening to the story, there wasn't any timeline of between Penny and Delsin. Because of it, I was thinking how could Delsin be seeing Penny when he is engaged and about to get married. Maybe if I was reading the book or listening to the narrator, I might have noticed it. It took me awhile before I realize what was going on in the story.

At the end of the story, the narrator was able to show that Penny grew up from her time with Delsin. Of course, readers/listeners will have to read the book to discover how the story ended. This story is worth reading and listening to. I will read definitely read the book and will listen to the story again.

I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator via Audiobook Blast in return for an honest review. I was not compensated or influence in any way for my review.
