Publisher's summary

Time is running out for Ahren as he and Khara leave their companions under cover of darkness and make their way to the Eternal Empire. The Pall Cloud is spreading relentlessly, yet the full complement of 13 Paladins have still not gathered together. But the couple are finding it impossible to find a way through to the notoriously draconian and reclusive empress, and all their attempts to enlist her support in the war against the Adversary seem doomed to failure once Ahren falls into the clutches of Quin-Wa's Peace Sentinels. While his friends seek a way of evading the empress's charm net in their efforts to help, Ahren and Khara find themselves battling to stay alive.

Love the story

It is difficult at times to like the protagonist but the author has a good grasp on the ‘black and white’ absolutism of the late teen years (if I didn’t save everyone then I haven’t done anything good). Looking forward to the next in the series.

Another excellent installment

This is another excellent installment in the 13th Palladin series. It is written well, has interesting plot development, and is entertaining. It is well worth the read.

i feel stifled for the main character, Ahren is too soft

Love the story, but don't get me wrong, I was disappointed that Ahren really doesn't get much by himself character growth (with no one from his group of friends around). It really disappointed me that right when the alter ego would win (temporarily or not). I found this book that I love the character more when they are by themselves and not babying or pampering eachother. Friends and lovers are great and all. But I as a reader feel stifled that he needs all this help. I'm going to hold out hope that that mysterious creature after Ahren, allows for what I wanted to happen with the alter ego.
I've read books where groups travel together to get strong and beat the bbeg, but none of them have felt this stifling. I have high hopes that the rest of the adventure doesn't have Ahrens companions and wolf making me want to unlive them for Ahrens growth. No good character growth can happen when being followed by 3 father figures, a mother figure, a wife, and aknow itnall wolf stuck in ones head 24/7 for almost 3y. this small reprieve didn't help when he was too damn excited, for help instead of solving his alter ego problems himself.

good series

This series has a good mix of fighting, magic use and bonded animals that support their partner.

Most of these books have been good, this one…..ehh

Lots of putting the male
Protagonist thru hell, typically due to something the lady protagonist directly influences yet only directing attention to how the young male needs to
Grow an how his female “companion” is perfect and responsible for nothing.

Wonderful series

This is classic high fantasy that leans into the tropes but with a unique twist and a well crafted world. The characters and dialogue are charming and believable. I would have expected much more awkward moments in a translated work of fiction. Even the humor lands. The performance and the writing complement each other to create a wonderful experience and I can’t wait for the next episode. In fact it is downloaded and ready in my queue.
