Publisher's summary

The ships came at dawn. Dean’s wife is dead. Her last words: When the ships come...wear the necklace. Then the ships arrived.

Cities all around the world reported strange alien vessels descending. Some saw them as the heralds of a new age; others fired everything they had at them. All were taken as the beams lashed down and drew them into the sky.

Dean was left behind, seemingly the last man on Earth. A trail of clues left by his dead wife guides Dean on a perilous journey across America and beyond to learn the truth behind the mysterious ships and save humanity from its doom.

But not everything is as it seems.

The Event is the epic first novel by Nathan Hystad, creator of the best-selling Explorations anthology series.

Love sci-fi and book that grabs your attention?!

Great listen. Grabs you right away and there's enough twists and turns to keep you listening.

it was an easy read and no real slow spots but plot and character development was ok.

A silly book. Could not finish it.

I have listened to over 100 audible science fiction books. I have never listened to one as silly, ridiculous as this one could not finish it.

The story had potential, but not fully developed.

The story felt too rushed. The characters were not developed enough. The writer could've added more depth to the event that happened to the humans, and the impact. He should've taken more time on this one. The narrator was average.

Near perfect alien invasion story

The story and performance are pitch perfect; great listen. I look forward to continuing the series.

Ok story. A little too cheesy though.

It was ok, but a few times I was tempted to just move on to a different story. The dialogue was very cheesy/sophomoric. Just not my thing. Probably a good story for a middle schooler.
Narration was ok. Although the accents were over the top.

Great idea ok execution

As usual Luke Daniels rocks!! The premise of the story is great. Characters are great.
But
Details fail. A sailboat journey is central to the story but I don’t think the author has ever seen one never mind understand how a sailboat functions. Might seem like a minor problem but it ruins the story and is the gaping hole that’s makes you notice other story problems. I liked the story and will listen to the other books but a little more research and editing could have made the book so much better. Hopefully the next ones will improve.

An excellent performance but..

Unfortunately, there are quite a lot of plot holes in this storyline. I am interested in continuing and seeing how the author progresses in their experience of writing, but encourage all to remember that this is the first of the series. There is a lot to be desired in terms of story continuity and plot consistency. I'll give book 2 a try, since I think Luke Daniels performance is the big savior of this book series so far.
