Publisher's summary

An instant USA Today bestseller

A hockey player and a baker shoot their shot in this steamy new romance by Lana Ferguson, USA Today bestselling author of The Nanny.

When a very public breakup becomes a PR nightmare for Ian Chase's team, he hopes to focus on his game, but that suddenly seem less likely than a hat trick. With his career and the team’s image in jeopardy, Ian is surprised to find a solution through none other than Delilah Baker, his best friend and teammate's little sister…who isn’t so little anymore.

Delilah Baker is known as “the darling of baking” on her local cable show, and being in the public eye is her bread and butter. But with her numbers dwindling and her producers turning up the heat, Delilah offers up the half-baked idea to collaborate with her brother’s team to entice the hockey fans of Boston to tune in to her show. Delilah thinks it will be a piece of cake—until the team sends Ian Chase, her brother’s best friend and the object of a decade-long crush that she’s never quite gotten over.

Delilah's and Ian’s teams think it’s a true win-win situation—gaining higher numbers for Delilah’s show and casting Ian in a more positive light. And viewers are eating them up like a cupcake, sparking the idea to play up their relationship for the goal of good press. With more than just their careers on thin ice, the line between what’s real and what’s for show begins to blur, but one thing’s for certain: This PR stunt will either be a total game changer—or leave them both totally pucked.

Critic reviews

"It is no secret that I have and will always devour anything Lana Ferguson writes. The Game Changer is her first dab at sports romance, and boy, I was immediately obsessed. This book has Ferguson’s addictive brand of delicious spice and story-telling, plus one of the tropes I’ll never get tired of reading: brother’s best friend. Besides, we get to follow a giant ginger on skates around the ice and a baker who calls him cupcake. It doesn’t get better than this."—Elena Armas, New York Times bestselling author of The Spanish Love Deception

Refreshing Romance

It was so nice to read a romance where the drama wasn’t caused by misunderstanding and miscommunication between the two main characters, but by outside forces. A mature couple who communicates well and has crazy chemistry; I’ll read that kind of romance anytime.

Another hit from Lana Ferguson!

Witty banter, hockey, friends to lovers, and Zachary Webber as a narrator...........I mean what else could you ask for in a book? This was a great book. The characters were fantastic. No third act break up - which is always a plus. It was just so well written and left me wanting more from the author.

It was good, similar to her books out ere, but good.

Overall, the story is ok. It’s not that predictable
and has a good pace. The MMC is good.

Sweet and steamy

Sweetness abounds! What a couple of sweethearts we have in Delilah and Ian! They are incredibly darling and nicely spicy.

Ian Chase is back home after six years playing hockey for a team in Calgary, but his undeserved bad reputation (and the reason he had to flee the city) is still an issue. Delilah Baker’s local television baking show is dropping in the ratings. Oh! What if she gets her brother’s hockey teammate to come on the show to boost ratings? Surprise! The teammate is Ian whom she’d had a teenage crush on for years.

Now they’re both firmly in their hot adult years and the chemistry is undeniable. So, they don’t. Deny it. No. They accept their chemistry and it’s a lesson in friction causing fires. I think you know where the fire is located.

Narrated by Samantha Summers and Zachary Webber, this sweet and spicy story is unstoppable. Like, I literally did not want to stop listening. I especially loved Samantha’s take on Delilah’s brother Jack’s voice. Actually, both of them made Jack come to life and he is dreamy and funny and I wonder if Lana would write a book about him. Oh and Zachary’s whispering in a particularly steamy shower scene. Woo boy! 🫠🫠🫠 And I didn’t even mention Ian’s obsession with hearing Lilah call out his name. 🥵 One more thing: excellent use of the word “brat”.

❤️❤️❤️

• Childhood crush
• Hockey Romance
• Brother's best friend
• She always had his back
• Fake dating
• She calls him Cupcake
• He calls her Brat
• NO third act breakup

This book was such a sweet read!!! I loved both Ian and Delilah's characters so much!

Since she can remember, Delilah has always crushed on her brother's best friend. But what happens when that friend is back in your life many years later and returning those same feelings?

Ian was such a wholesome character. Always putting others before himself. Even to his own detriment.

I loved the way Delilah stood up for Ian and always had his back! She stood up for him even when they were kids.

This book was definitely a sweet read! BUT the spiceeeee! Was spicy! Ian had one heck of a dirty mouth! 🔥 And THAT LOCKER ROOM SCENE!!!!!!! MY GOSH!

I always enjoy Lana Ferguson's books, and this one was no different!

The audio to it was PERFECT!!! Zachary Webber and Samantha Summers put on one heck of a performance!! 🤌🤌

sexy, sweet and funny

this has it all. life long friends to lovers, hockey, fake dating, emotional family drama, Zachary Webber narrating. there is no 3rd act breakup between the main couple. outside of the obvious "plot twist" early in the book and the frustrating interrupting instead of just letting Ian say what he needed to say, this was a very low stress book. I loved this couple and of course the side characters (Jack). the spice was excellent and Zachary Webber is the hottest at narrating those scenes. I liked the female narrator too.

Cute and smutty

Destroyed this book in a day. Loved every bit of it, no crazy drama, just pure joy which is why I love Lana so much. I’m so sad is over but looking forward to her next book and the next and the next!!! The female voice was not my favorite but the male voice was perfection.

Brother's Best Friend Hockey Romance

You know how some books just fit your mood perfectly and make you smile? This is one of those for me.

At a glance:
- Pro hockey player + baking show host
- Giant ginger + petite, curvy FMC
- Older brother's best friend
- Childhood crush (longtime pining)
- Fake dating
- Tattoos
- Tenderness and caring
- Family issues
- That combustible chemistry I've come to expect from Lana Ferguson
+ She calls him "Cupcake".

I highly recommend listening to this one on audio for the dual narration by Zachary Webber and Samantha Summers. 🔥 Their narration captures these characters perfectly.
