Publisher's summary
From the Author of , "When the Dandelions Sing," and "Phoebe's Heart of Stone," comes a brand new novel,
"The Gift of Life Plus One".
About the story:
Agnes is a young, unconventional little girl, who wants to be exactly who she is. Her father, Jon, struggles with the balance of raising his children the way he sees fit, while still allowing them to grow into the people they are destined to become. When Agnes suddenly falls ill, her life and the lives of those around her are altered forever, in ways they never imagined. Both her father and mother, Amanda, are faced with challenges that will either break them, or save them. Jon finds that when he drifts off to sleep, his mind often travels to a unique place where he is mostly alone with his thoughts, while discovering that accepting life as it happens is not always easy, but important to moving on to the next season of life. “The Gift of Life, Plus One,” provides the perspective that just because life doesn’t necessarily go as we planned, it’s exactly the way it was intended.
James has written other novels, and here are some of the things people are saying about those:
- This book is a brilliant rendition of his journey and his questions about life. It’s quite riveting-I could not put it down. It has a sense of depth and insight that while making it relatable to a large audience, it answers several life’s nagging questions for a select few.
- Amazing book, the book is a feel good story telling. Everything has a purpose in life and everything happens for a reason. This book reminds us that little things count and the purpose of relationships, weather how big or small those relationships are.
- The story of Ronnie “Jasper” Jefferson McFarland Jr. is one we all need to read. James Hill has written a story of a life with lessons for all of us. We all need a purpose and we can find it if we listen to our hearts and our family.
- I absolutely loved this book. I could not wait to read a few chapters each night. Towards the end I could not put it down. It made me smile and at times put tears in my eyes. Great/inspirational story that brings everything together perfectly at the end. Highly recommend this book!
- A story of hope and triumph, one that will feed your soul and leave you wanting more. You will walk through each stage of life with Ronnie (Jasper) feeling every emotion through a metaphorical relation to each character. My personal take is that each significant person in Ronnie’s life represents an aspect of self that either positively contributes towards personal growth or “purpose” or hinders it. But even in the end what is perceived as a hindrance is actually a catalyst for growth. I highly recommend this book- be prepared to feel all the feels.
About the Author:
James J. Hill III is a father, writer, and author of the new novel, “The Gift of Life, Plus One,” which is his third published novel. James grew up in Norristown, PA and continues to live in nearby Chester County, PA where he is the proud single father to five daughters.

The 13 chapters of The Art of War, each devoted to one aspect of warfare, were compiled by the high-ranking Chinese military general, strategist, and philosopher Sun-Tzu. In spite of its battlefield specificity, The Art of War has found new life in the modern age, with leaders in fields as wide and far-reaching as world politics, human psychology, and corporate strategy finding valuable insight in its timeworn words.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.
