Publisher's summary

My name is Tamara Bentley, "Bent" to my friends, and I'm not supposed to exist. I was born of the forbidden union between a witch and a werewolf, and they've been trying their damnedest to hide my existence ever since.

But now my secret is out, and my uncle, the leader of the wolf pack, is pissed beyond belief. In his eyes, I'm something that should've never been born. He wants me dead and doesn't care who he has to sacrifice to get the job done.

I'm far from helpless, though. Not only am I a champion athlete, but I'm strong enough to punch out a bus. Good thing, too, because a rare lunar event is about to increase my uncle's already terrifying power. I'll have to call on every last ounce of strength I have if I want to survive the night and save the lives of everyone counting on me.

A good book on Witches and Werewolves and being who and what you are.

Plenty of action and drama, finding oneself, in search of one's own place in the world.
Even when everyone is doing everything to keep you locked in what they expect, to out of fear, of what you might do, or even out of love but knowing what others may do.

Not a YA story

When I first read the synopsis, I thought it was a YA book. But it's not really. The heroine is college aged but she has to deal with plenty of adult problems like saving her town from her before unknown werewolf side of her family.

GOOD START.

Enjoyable. Warring groups between weres and witches. Young protagonist a hybrid with a were father and a witch for mother is caught between trying to keep her town safe. Plucky girl! Interesting dialogue well performed by Rachel Dulude. I am looking forward to the next book. Good series.

Pretty entertaining

It's easy to break down a character and insult the writer. It is hard to create an entire new world I am a fan of Rick Gualtieri's characters.

I can't wait for the next book!!!!

I have been impatiently waiting for this book to be available on audio and it didn't disappoint. I was hooked from the very beginning and it was such a fun story to listen to that it will definitely be on my list of books I relisten to when I am out of credits. I thought the narrator was the perfect voice for Bent and did a great job.

Another whiny, self-righteous MC

Positives first: The story line was entertaining enough that it kept my attention and I wanted to keep listening, except when running into the issues below. The narration was well done and probably contributed to that a lot.

Negatives: I am so tired of whiny, full of themselves, MCs who, with no experience and very little information, think they know better than everyone else. Worse, as is the case here, is when anyone with knowledge and experience is ignored or written off because of a mistake in combatting complex societal issues. (These issues, of course, will be magically easy for the MC to solve.) These characters are shallowly treated with huge gaps in between the mistake that seems to invalidate any contributions they could have to make, and the caring people (and leaders!) that they supposedly are in other parts of the story. There are also huge gaps and inconsistencies in family dynamics.

Meanwhile, the bratty MC, bumbles her way through the plot with a self-righteous attitude. She is understandably upset about being kept in the dark in the beginning, but she huffs off in a snit any time people are trying to give her the very information she wants. She makes way more mistakes than the previous generations (but that's "forgivable" because she's the MC) and is validated by the way she "succeeds" in the story line. The end of the book made it clear that this annoying cycle of immaturity-masquerading-as-wisdom was going to continue. I will not be picking up more books by this author.
