About this listen

Kate

I'm the last mermaid.

I'm back on shores of Lake Erie, but the cold waters are silent. There is nothing here for me but ghosts and the beach glass that litters the rocky shore. Long ago, I lived below the waves. Now, I am the sole survivor, and at long last, my mermaid glamour is leaving me.

Every day, I walk the beach. Every day, I wonder what happened to my people. The little pieces of colored glass that wash ashore give me simple pleasure. They are gifts from the lake, reminders of home. I fashion them into trinkets: necklaces, earrings, bracelets. They are beautiful things. The humans seem to love them.

Every day, I walk the beach. Nothing ever changes, until the day he says hello.

Cooper

I'm dying.

It's not a question; it's a fact. The cancer is eating me alive. They told me I have six months to live, maybe less. I came home, back to Chancellor on Lake Erie, to die. The sunsets are vivid there, and I will relish every one.

I've never seen anything more beautiful than a Lake Erie sunset, until I see her.

All life is as fragile as glass.

What would you sacrifice to save the one you love?

Fairytale Vibe with HEA

If you are looking for an under the sea tale, this is not it. Kate is a mermaid that began to live as a human since her kind succumbed to disease. She has struggled connecting with a man until she began to watch Cooper painting on the beach.

Easy to listen to with mild sadness but a HEA. Has a fairytale vibe. Looking forward to reading more in this series. Can definitely be read as a stand-alone.

A Beautiful Tale About a Mermaid and Love

Colorful sea glass, swing music, paintings of sunsets with Kate in them. Lake Erie and Cooper. "The Glass Mermaid" was a beautiful, poetic novella about a mermaid who was nearing 300 years old who meets the love of her life in Cooper who was human. This was a unique story about love, death, and rebirth.

I enjoyed this a lot. It was a terrific audiobook that had me hooked from the start. I love the style of Poppy Lawless. What a wonderful author and artist to paint such beautiful imagery with words. A true wordsmith.

Hollie Jackson did an amazing job narrating this book. I like the way she slightly shifted her voice back and forth from Kate to Cooper. It was subtle and perfect. She added another dimension of uniqueness to the story. Wonderful.

beautifully sweet story

STORY REVIEW......

This was an amazingly sweet beautiful story. I was really happy with how the story ended. If I was to complain about it in anyway it would be that I wished it was longer. It would have been nice to learn more about her people.

AUDIO REVIEW......

I found the narrator to be very good at reading the book as well as giving the characters life and voice.

Achingly sweet.

This one is just a bit heavier than the other short stories in this series. They can all be read as standalone, but two others are part of the cute world of Chancellor.
This book has a HEA but some angst and sadness in between. I’d suggest reading it in between the other two just because this one makes me cry.

All in all great narration and a lovely magical story.

Fantastic story

Wow! After listening to the last chapter, I thought that I had just listened to a tragic, sad tale. Not so! You have to listen/read the story to see what I mean. I would not give it away for anything. It was still a melancholic story, but for a different reason. Yes, I whole heartily recommend this book. Now for the obligatory: "I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review."
