Publisher's summary

From Liane Moriarty, author of the number-one New York Times best sellers Big Little Lies and Nine Perfect Strangers, comes an unforgettable novel defined by her signature sharp wit, pause-resisting storyline, and lovable and eccentric characters.

A family secret explodes. A first kiss betrays. A mystery is solved. A marriage is tested. It all happens on one extraordinary night - the Last Anniversary!

Sophie Honeywell always wondered if Thomas Gordon was the one who got away. He was the perfect boyfriend, but on the day he was going to propose, she broke his heart. A year later, he married his travel agent, while Sophie has been mortifyingly single ever since. Now, Thomas is back in her life because Sophie has unexpectedly inherited his aunt Connie's house on Scribbly Gum Island - home of the famously unsolved Munro Baby mystery.

Sophie moves onto the island and begins a new life as part of an unconventional family where it seems everyone has a secret. Grace, a beautiful young mother, is feverishly planning a shocking escape from her perfect life. Margie, a frumpy housewife, has made a pact with a stranger, while dreamy Aunt Rose wonders if maybe it's about time she started making her own decisions.

As Sophie's life becomes increasingly complicated, she discovers that sometimes you have to stop waiting around - and come up with your own fairy-tale ending.

Absolutely Fantastic!

I loved this author, she really knows how to write about people. It starts slow but trust the author. This story had me feeling all sorts of emotions. I could really relate to some of the characters. I preferred the other narrators that Moriarty used in the past but the story is beautiful. It's a must listen! I'm signed in under my husband's name but I think many types of listeners would enjoy this book.

Narrator is horrible

The narrator sounds monotone and robotic. I could barely make it through the first few chapters. I had to return it.

Great story... ok performance.

when the book initially started, I had trouble following the story due to the narrator's robotic and monotonous tone. It made it difficult for me to stay interested. The story was what kept me listening, as I was curious to find out how it developed. Eventually I got used to the narrator's voice and intonation to where it eventually didn't bother me as much. the story was good and I enjoyed it very much.

Great story!

I love Liane Moriarty and this one did not disappoint! The narrator was perfect and I loved the writing style. I love the way the story flowed and little bits of the mystery were given along the way. The characters were rich and well developed. Highly recommend!

Just have Siri read this book to you.

The narrator has the exact same awkward vocal delivery as Siri or Alexa. The audiobook suffers because of that, but Liane Moriarty’s story is as twisty as ever.

Slightly interesting

This book was mildly interesting but overall lacked the thrill and excited I am accustom to from Liane Moriarty.

The best ending!

This is definitely Liane Moriarty’s best book since her first. Funny, heartwarming, and insightful about being an old lady as well as a new mother. Plus I couldn’t help feeling how much I would have enjoyed being one of Sophie’s girl friends.

A signature twist

I really enjoyed this audiobook. Every Liane Moriarty book has a great twist I don’t anticipate and this was no different. I liked the setting of the book and also how everything was wrapped up. I also sometimes get annoyed by books jumping between the point of view of different characters but I actually enjoyed it in this story.
