Publisher's summary

"I've been told that the entire continent of Antarctica groaned at the moment of my birth. The howl tore across glaciers, over mountains and deep into the ice. Everyone says so. Except for my father; all he heard was Mother's sobs. Not of pain, but of joy, so he says. Other than that, the only verifiable fact about the day I was born is that an iceberg the size of Los Angeles broke free from the ice shelf a few miles off the coast. Again, some would have me believe the fracture took place as I entered the world. But all that really matters, according to my parents, is that I, Solomon Ull Vincent, the first child born on Antarctica - the first and only Antarctican - was born on September 2nd, 1974.

"If only someone could have warned me that, upon my return to the continent of my birth thirteen years later, I would be kidnapped, subjected to tortures beyond comprehension and forced to fight... and kill. If only someone had hinted that I'd wind up struggling to survive in a subterranean world full of ancient warriors, strange creatures and supernatural powers.

"Had I been warned I might have lived a normal life. The human race might have remained safe. And the fate of the world might not rest on my shoulders. Had I been warned....

"This is my story - the tale of Solomon Ull Vincent - The Last Hunter."

everything i wanted. EXCELLENT series.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

this whole series plays out like a boyhood fantasy, without sounding like it was written for kids. it combines several subjects & aspects that i love all in one story arc. if you love undiscovered country, biblical giants & lore, dinosaurs, arcaeology, fighting, adventure, and coming-of-age stories, this series has it all. but unlike many books, this seems to give redemption to all the tragedies that happen, and ends satisfactorily, leaving you with fond afterthoughts, free from the nagging emotions of some story threads that didn't tie up the way you hoped. i am so happy i gave this series a chance.
for reference, the reading order should go: book 1, book 2, antarktos rising, books 3-5.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes: the Martian. he killed that book like a high-profile assassin. perfect mix of pacing & humour. i also listened to the book "Damoren," a much less humorous book, but still very well performed. as a performer/narrator myself, i can be very nit-picky, so whenever i come across a good narrator, i give praise. and R.C. Bray deserves praise.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

i wanted to finish in one sitting, but also wanted it to last as long as possible.

Any additional comments?

the Martian (also read by the same narrator) is not my normal type of book. but i got it on the advice of a friend. if astronaut terminology & space travel sci-fi arent the subjects you're usually interested in, give this book a try anyways. i was so surprised how much i loved it.

The beginning of a must listen series

If you could sum up The Last Hunter - Descent in three words, what would they be?

Must listen

What did you like best about this story?

Character development was excellent

Which character – as performed by R. C. Bray – was your favorite?

Solomon

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The breaking

Any additional comments?

I was looking for a quick sci-fi book to listen to and stumbled across this book. After I finished this one I got the remainder of the books in the series and listened to them all the way through. I have it playing in the background while I am working and it makes the day go by much faster although I have to admit it may have reduced my productivity at times.

worthy of movie

If you could sum up The Last Hunter - Descent in three words, what would they be?

Anime quality

What other book might you compare The Last Hunter - Descent to and why?

As good as starship troopers or lord of the rings. actually i will likely get slammed for this but i thought it was better then rings which i could not really get into as much outside the movies). its a unique mix of fantasy and 80 pop-culture. Jeremy Robinson's work that i have listened to or read so far are as good as anime works like Robotech and Godzilla. =)

What does R. C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

a plesent voice, great delivery and the abilitiy to do other stuff well enjoying a great book.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

yes but i do not want to spoil anything so i will not mention it.

Any additional comments?

Man i hope they make a Cartoon or comic out of this.

A fantastic story

Excellent writing, really captures the readers attention and imagination. Solomon is a strong character who you feel for and want him to succeed. I am looking forward to the next one. I think this series is probably one of the most character driven series Robinson has written. R.C.Bray did such an amazing job with the narration, if I hadn't known from the start that he was narrating I wouldn't have believed it, it is that good.
