Publisher's summary

"Those who have awakened the Light within are Stars - the silent warriors who turn their mind into a weapon against darkness. They take the hardest Path, so others can know peace." - From the Prologue

In a fantastically creative fusion of space opera, the Golden Age Elysium, and Earth-bound cyberpunk settings, four young warriors called the Quarta begin their journey in a Special Forces military academy. Yet after the terrifying surprise attack of the Shadow demons that destroyed their homeworld, the scattered Quarta are forced to flee to Earth and the seeming safety of Tokyo, Japan. Here, the remaining three comrades blend into society as an undercover boy band, while mounting a desperate search for their missing battle-brother.

Meanwhile, a galactic war rages throughout the Universe, as the Shadow’s forces seek to rewrite history and take over the world by closing the Gate of Time Past. Only the Great Star Antares, the current Guardian of the Gate and her formidable soulmate Vega have the power to thwart the Shadow’s imminent storm. The problem is…Vega’s memory has been erased by the enemy. Will Antares find Vega before it’s too late, and what role will the Quarta play in the imminent battle that will weigh the fate of the Universe? You will be surprised to discover the answer.

The Guardians is the epic first volume of the action-packed and spiritually rewarding Lightwatch Chronicles YA Space Saga series. Won't be able to stop listening

I have read and listened to a lot of different books, and somehow I always find my way back to this one. When I heard that there was going to be an audiobook I had to get it! The story pulls you in as you are hanging on to every last symbol that is being spoken. When authors narrate their own stories it’s simply mesmerizing to get pulled into their world. It's like a behind the scenes of how the author heard the story when it first came to them. It is unlike any other books I have read and worlds I have fallen into. For my fellow people living in the U.S it is in British English. I had no problem understanding, it was clear and precise for me! It's an epic space saga that makes you believe that life can be well, epic again; as life lessons are woven into the story as well that merges in perfectly with the characters and world. I couldn't press pause on it!

Quirky Story

In the past year, I've really gotten into audiobooks. I even test out genres I rarely read in that format because I find most audiobooks so enjoyable. They're the perfect thing to help you while away time doing boring jobs like cleaning the garage. I found this one particularly fun because the author herself narrates the book. I love it when authors do that. No one understands their story like they do! I'll admit, though, I did find her sometimes hard to listen to because she has a very heavy accent and frequently mispronounced words. For instance, the subtitle of this is “The Guardians”; she pronounced that more like “gardens.” Another word used often was Madeira, which was pronounced like “madiria.” One was amusing: “brow” sounded more like a garment of women's apparel! This is definitely a quirky story, with both a smaller story very personal to the young heroes: finding their friend (and how they go about it is definitely different!). But the only reason they were separated was because a massive galactic war broke out! So we have both the personal story—which gets a little zany but is certainly fun—and the broader story about what will happen with the space opera galactic war. I certainly recommend you listen to the sample of this book at Audible to see if the author/narrator's voice will be okay for you when you listen to it for a long stretch of time, as it is a long audiobook.
