About this listen

The Lost Generation from Professor Michael Shelden evokes one of the most creative periods in American literature. Paris of the 1920s served as a base for such authors as F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Ezra Pound, and Gertrude Stein. In these lectures, Professor Shelden details and provides fresh insight into the unending allure of the Lost Generation - and of the literary output that exerts a continuing influence nearly a century later.

Evocative of wonderful period in literature

This is one of my favorite lecture series! The professor's voice is calm but captivating. This is such a fascinating place and time, and I loved learning more about some of my favorite authors. It paired well for me with the Great Courses series on World War I. I especially loved the discussion of Hemingway, Fitzgerald, and the stories of Shakespeare and Co, and Gertrude Stein.

Fascinating and Very Enjoyable

This lecture was really everything I was looking for on the Lost Generation in Paris. Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Pound, Eliot, Sylvia Beach, Gertrude Stein, and others; their lives, relationships, struggles, triumphs, and where they hung out in Paris. The lectures were truly wonderful. Thank you Dr. Shelden!

Extremely Interesting

Fascinating all the way through! Loved the content and narration.

The only downside was the professor’s bio at the beginning…It went on WAY too long.

Very nice introduction

Informative for laymen who are interested in the American expatriates in Paris in the 1920s. The professor 's slow, soft and a little nostalgic tone is perfect for the topic. I finished this in less than a week, which is a record for me.

Good Story, but Unbearable Narration

The story is interesting, but the slow, dull, nauseatingly soft, and constantly pausing narration ruins this audiobook. Highly recommended if you want to listen to it to help you fall asleep. This audiobook would have been several hours shorter if Shelden had just read at a normal pace instead of briefly pausing every two words.
