Publisher's summary

Seventeen-year-old spirit medium Emily Chambers has a problem. Actually, she has several. As if seeing dead people isn’t a big enough social disadvantage, she also has to contend with an escaped demon and a handsome ghost with a secret past. And then there’s the question of her parentage. Being born an entire year after her father’s death (yes, a year), Emily is as much a mystery as the dead boy assigned to her.

Jacob Beaufort’s spirit has been unable to crossover since his death. It might have something to do with the fact he was murdered. Or it might not. All he knows is he has been assigned by the Otherworld’s administrators to a girl named Emily. A girl who can see and touch him. A girl who released a shape-shifting demon into the mortal realm. Together, they must send the demon back before it wreaks havoc on London. It should be a simple assignment, but they soon learn there’s nothing simple when a live girl and a dead boy fall in love.

A paranormal romance & mystery

Not your normal paranormal story but I enjoyed it. Good plot and great narrator. Takes place in Victorian times.

Love It

CJ Archer has a way with words, love, and mysteries. I love all of her books, and this, like the others, did not disappoint.

The Medium

Normally CJ Archer is a favorite author of mine. This book missed the mark in my opinion. For one thing, I think the characters were too young. seventeen and nineteen. The premise of the story was a bit far-fetched even for paranormal books. The "heroine" of the story is a tad simpering and unrealistic. And let's face it, the "hero" is dead.... unless she's willing to give up the "ghost" (her own, that is) there really isn't a happy ending here. The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, this wasn't. This is only my opinion. I'm certain there are many who will love it. I will continue to look forward to CJ Archer write other novels, but I will not be continuing this series.

Not my cup of tea

This is a chick book, no doubt about it. If you like Harlequin books you should like it though. The plot is ok but could be written on two paperback book pages. I like her other books but this one seems more geared towards a marketing ploy to get your money by selling three books for a single story.

Maybe it's me?

I ran out of Tilky Wallace stories, so I followed my recommendations to CJ Archer's prolific writings. I wanted to like the story; but it was just too trite and underdeveloped.

Missed the mark... by a lot.

I was excited to start this book as C.J. Archer is a favorite author. Simply put, the book's bad, really bad. The title character, Emily, is a medium who holds seances with her sister. After one seance, Emily is approached by a ghost who tells her she and her sister unknowingly set a demon loose. She agrees to help catch the demon. And then a lot of nothing happens. Seriously, nothing that pushes the plot forward happens. For seven hours we don't hear about the demon and they make no attempts to catch the demon. Then the story is quickly wrapped up all nice and tidy. I don't think I can quite convey how awful this story was.
