Publisher's summary

War is coming. With the reappearance of the Tuatha De, the countryside is thrown into chaos. Entire villages have been obliterated. Magic users are suffering persecution along with the Faie, leaving droves of refuges to wait outside the gates of the great cities, hoping for the acceptance that will never come.

After a brief reunion with her companions, Finn is stolen away during the night by an unseen foe. Lost and alone, she must put her trust in a stranger if she hopes to reach Migris alive. Yet, nothing is as it seems, and those she trusts most may very well be the ones to betray her.

Interesting stories and characters

I really like the book. I am invested in the characters but I am not enjoying the narrator. She basically reads the book but too fast. All the male characters sound alike and this distracts you from the story. This might be better on a Kindle or a hard cover.

Horrible Narrator, speaks at different speeds.

Holly does not narrate as well as the first book’s narrator. She speaks too fast and then changes rhythm. I had to slow speed to .75 That dragged out some characters. This would have been much better if they kept the narrator of the first book. I truly enjoyed it. This version, not so much. I will make sure I don’t buy her narrative in the future. Sorry but true. Author is good, Who will check out more of her writing.

Ok For Teens

Not much substance to the story, to me it seems shallow. Not horrible, I was just glad it was short.

Expected More

This story is an enjoyable fantasy but it could use a little more depth into the various characters. I’ve gone through the second book now and I am just barely figuring who some of the characters and totally lost on each new city or town. I feel like I want to grasp onto these things but there is not enough substance to do that.
My main disgruntlement is with the performance. The performer in the first book was almost monotone, so I was glad to see there would be a switch in the second book. Unfortunately the first narrator got about a D and the second narrator only went up to a C.

This brings the stories to a level of a children’s series in many ways. I am just used to finding performances in all the other books I’ve listened to on audible as wonderful and completely forgetting the voice of the narrator and becoming totally engrossed in each character and the story as it unravels. Put more thought into who performs your books if you have any other books in the future.

Plot is great, but story moves slow.

I love the storyline, I just wish there was a little more action, and interaction between the characters, and a little less description.

narrators make a huge difference

I almost returned this because the narrator was different from the 1st book and she sounded like a newscaster reading a teleprompter!
stuck it out because I like the characters but I don't know if I can keep listening because it's just not as good with this narrator.

still loving this series!

the plot thickens and I'm loving it! the performance isn't the best (changing of name pronunciation throughout), but it's not bad either (good tone and timing).

Narrator is not very good.

the narrator was not very good. She started out way to fast! she eventually slows down and gets a little better. I prefer the narrator from the first book.

Awful narrator.

I will have to read the physical book, because for some reason the narrator is different than for the first book. I loved the first book’s narrator, especially for Finn, but this one is so different from the last one, it just doesn’t work for this story. It sounds like she has a southern drawl sometimes, and she talks so fast I checked to see if I had changed the speed on my app. Can’t listen anymore.
