Publisher's summary

An accident leads to the discovery of a mysterious machine that has rested hidden deep underground for countless millennia. The machine awakens to begin issuing a series of increasingly alarming, if minor, omens. The omens turn out to be astonishingly accurate, and ever more ominous. As Zedd tries to figure out how to destroy the sinister device, the machine issues a cataclysmic omen involving Richard and Kahlan, foretelling an impending event beyond anyone’s ability to stop. As catastrophe approaches, the machine then reveals that it is within its power to withdraw the omen... In exchange for an impossible demand.

Another smash hit in my opinion

I love all of these novels. out of the entire series and its spin offs the only one i would have liked slightly different would be pillars of creation. That is only because the book brely had richard and khalan in it. Another great novel, thank you Mr. Goodkind.

Well this book is definitly different.

I struggled to stay awake at some points. mostly because the author tends to repeat certain details over and over. the story was good very interesting just maybe a little too much attention to the details

a little disappointing

Would you try another book from Terry Goodkind and/or Sam Tsoutsouvas?

by Terry Goodkind yes but not if it's read by Sam. I really don't like the way he reads. Nick Sullivan is much much better.

What was most disappointing about Terry Goodkind’s story?

I'm not sure if it was the reader or if it was just a little boring. No real excitement. I would listen to it again if Nick Sullivan was the reader.

How could the performance have been better?

Better if Sam didn't read it.

Did The Omen Machine inspire you to do anything?

No

Any additional comments?

After hearing this I almost didn't download The First Confessor, But when I saw the it was read by someome other than Sam I gave it a go, and I wasnt disappointed again.

Great narrator but story was written oddly

Any additional comments?

While I enjoyed listening to the book (Mr. Tsoutsouvas does a great job) there were parts of the story that bothered me, especially the characters' attitudes to noticing patterns and the repetitive nature of explanations and reasoning. Characters would be addressing each other about a problem or observation, using a relatively sound thought process, and the reaction of the character audience would be akin to "What?!", "What do you mean?!", or "I don't understand!" which is fine, except when this is the reaction you get (in one form or another) over and over again, even after the view point of the character(s) have been explained over and over, using THE SAME WORDS or phrasing. So, certain sections and passages were very repetitive. Also, the incredulity of characters at certain odd observations being part of a pattern struck me as odd, given their history with odd and weird goings-on. I figured they would have learned their lesson to pay closer attention to weird things. Finally, listening to the book (maybe this is a good thing), I learned that I could tune out for a few minutes and not miss much as I knew the characters would wind up repeating themselves about what ever was going on. Once the characters finally understood whoever was talking and the story picked up again, it was fine.

Ok, but...

I have read everything by Goodkind and have been looking forward to more stories in the "Seeker" series. It was nice to see the continued development of the story, but this book really needs some editing. The author repeats word images over and over with only slightly different phrasing. I will continue to buy Goodkind stories, but I would really like to see them tightened up. Enjoyed the narration very much.

Classic Goodkind

Same narrator as his series befor. Same style of writing. In my opinion narrator does great work for a interesting writer. If you liked Richard and all his friends , you will like this too.

Great Listen! Great Story!

I am a fan of the Sword of Truth series, tho towards they end they do get a little preachy..and yes they are dragged out, but this one is amazing! Filled with the same characters we all love from SoT and it does with out the long drawn out story and the preaching. The story itself is really good and for the most part it is fast paced, tho there is a couple parts where it seemed a little slow but not enought to hurt the rating any. The writing seems to be all around better and the reader still does a great job... EXCEPT he miss-pronounces Kara's name. He says ( care-uh) not (car-uh). it irritated me at first and i cringed thru most of the book but overall i really enjoyed this newest title from Terry. I hope there will be some more books on Richard and Kahlan soon!

The narrator is worth the listen!

I replayed a few chapters just to rehear the narrator’s performance. There are snippets of Dekker empathetic narrative but the narration is captivating entertainment.
