A fun origin story

This was a fun listen to the origins of the character of Ragnar Blackmane. As a long term Warhammer fan I honestly didn’t know much about the character to start with, but man I got invested in his journey in becoming a Space Wolf.

Great intro to the Warhammer 40K franchise.

Fun and a good listen. I am new to the 40K world and just started making my first minis. I am sure you can guess my army. I watched a few intro videos on the internet about the world and the space wolves. Afterwards I found this book and thought I give it a go. I honestly enjoyed it very much. A classic origin story told about a life of a normal warrior and his journey to becoming a Space Wolf. I would definitely recommend to anyone as an intro to the world.

Arc 1 of the Space Wolves shonen

This would be a good first Warhammer 40k book! Unfortunately for me this has gotta be somewhere past my 100 novels mark, but that's on me for leaving this so long. For people just jumping in and want a popular Space Marine chapter to follow, you can't go wrong.

Some of it is dated by lore standards but there is still a lot of fun stuff here. It is skewed a bit too young for me, especially since most of it is focused on boy Ragnar's life on Fenris and the proving trials. Also, being familiar with King's Gotrek and Felix books, a lot of his repeated phrases turn up here ("split his skull" "he KNEW he was going to die") which can be eyeroll-worthy.

However, Philip Sacramento REALLY punches this material up a notch. I'm not super familiar with him but after dozens of books of Keeble and Longworth, Sacramento sounds much different, in a good way, and adds some real pathos to the older members of the Rout.

Great story!

Well written and performed. Untainted by Games Workshop's new woke agenda. Can't wait for thr next book!
