A must listen

While Dr. King gave this speech in 1968, it is still relevant today. Full of famous quotes that we have read in memes, in this recording we have the context. I think it is especially important listening for white Americans to understand what has gone on in the Black community, even in recent years. I thought about Ferguson, how Black men are presumed dangerous, and poverty. Dr. King’s words are as true and important today as they were when he first uttered them.

Wanda's reading of Dr. Martin Luther King's speech is beautiful. I am a white person in grad school in the process of changing my career to become a high school teacher. I frequently debate with my class that while neo-liberalism is bypassing the majority of the black community before they get a chance to become key players in the corporate world by outsourcing high paying tech jobs to international workers, and neglecting sponsorship and involvement in public school curriculum-- but liberalism is equally harming the black community by telling them lies and harboring white people who prostrate themselves rather than applying themselves to practical improvement.

The going opinion in colleges among professors and students of all races is that the federal government should be moving toward a socialist state,

however,

Dr. King is clearly saying on March 10, 1968 in this speech that African Americans want equal rights in Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.

In 2018, amidst continuing struggles, those Americans who have the experience, leadership and knowledge need keep moving forward to foster career readiness in American high school children of all socioeconomic statuses and races, and to help African American children to feel confident and competitive, understand their identity, importance and rights as Americans; and to include historical accuracy in teaching the amazing contributions that their ancestors have made toward building the United States.

A great speech from decades ago is still relevant.

Still relevant in 2018. what moment in our times will justice and liberty for all be accessible?

A must listen!! This was the essence of MLK Jr

Wow. I will re-listen to this speech several times a year. Wanda Sykes did a great job invoking emotion into Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s words, and she held my attention for the entire speech. The issues MLK spoke of, the hypocrisies of America, the injustices faced by particular groups that the majority didn't care about, the plight of the poor no matter what color your skin, these issues are still unfortunately relevant today. He discusses them with such eloquence and grace, yet is confident and unyielding in speaking the truth. I am convinced 90% of people who quote him in an effort to silence people who speak up against injustice have no idea what he stood for or the things he said. They have turned him into a posthumous puppet, but he certainly wasn't anyone's puppet while he walked this earth. This speech should be mandatory reading/listening in all American schools. Perhaps if there wasn't such a diffeciency in education, our society would be a much better place.

At times we need to remember.

Kind of like a lecture. Nothing compares to the actual speech by Dr. King. Still relevant.

This speech is an example of how important it is for America to appreciate a true leader, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. If our current politicians and President would take the time to hear what the Doctor says and learn from it, what a great day that would be!!!
