was unable to finish

the casual racism made this unlistenable for me not cosy mystery I hankered for but perhaps I am at fault for expecting more from light Anglophile fare. Will spend the credit on some palate-cleansing poc pov.

What A Sweet Read!

I stumbled across this series and I am so happy I did. I loved watching Murder She Wrote with my Grandmother as a kid and these books are in the same vein. So many murder mysteries are gory and disturbing, but these are just plain fun. Great characters--love Gemma's mother--and I love spending time with them. Also, just love the descriptions of Oxford. It is now a the top of my travel bucket list. The only problem is I start craving a scone and a hot pot of Earl Gray each afternoon.

An Excellent example of a cozy mystery!

This really is everything you could hope for in a cozy mystery. It has likable characters dealing with real life situations who just happen to find themselves in totally improbably situations. It is good clean fun. It took me a bit to get used to the narrator. At first it seemed like she was whispering all the time. However by the time I had made it through the prequel, I had come to terms with her style and will probably forever equate her with the protagonist. (She does make really good cat noises.)

This was a lighthearted (if that can be said about murder mysteries ) fun read. I'll be listening to the rest of the series.

Entertaining

I purchased this set for break from books that emotionally scat you. It was the perfect choice. Fun and interesting. The narrator has the perfect sweet voice for the tone of the book and does a marvelous job with sound effects (meows to muffled voices) to boot!

Mystery and Romance

This reminds me of the style of Agatha Christie style. I love the old lady's who knows all the town's gossip.

Enjoyable read

I don’t typically write reviews but I will for this one. Writer has a gift for creating the scene mentally without overuse of descriptors. Several plausible suspects were provided. I did figure out the real killer but still had some lingering doubts. Characters are likable. I intend to buy book 3.

Tea Room mysteries

I sort of liked these characters, and I give the reader lots of credit for making the characters charming. So, appealing if predictable. But calling the elderly women who helped her run the tea room Old Biddies? Really? Seems disrespectful, unless British is far different than American english. My own granny would have smacked me if I called her that.

keeps your attention

You start to get into the characters. The narrator does a good job with all the different characters.
