Publisher's summary

It was just a party. But it turned into a nightmare.

When Rachel wakes up in a strange room, the morning after a neighbour’s party, she has no memory of what happened the night before. Why did her husband leave her alone at the party? Did they row? Why are Rachel’s arms so bruised? And why are her neighbours and friends so vague about what really happened?

Little by little, Rachel pieces together the devastating events that took place in a friend’s house, at a party where she should have been safe. Everyone remembers what happened that night differently, and everyone has something to hide. But someone knows the truth about what happened to Rachel. And she’s determined to find them.

The Party is the gripping new novel from bestseller Lisa Hall.

Critic reviews

"Breathlessly fast-paced and cleverly unsettling, this thriller about a couple trying to escape their past is the very definition of unputdownable." (Heat on Tell Me No Lies)

"An uneasy creeping feeling followed me through the book - I was never quite sure who I should be trusting - I read this book in one sitting because I had to know what was going to happen next. An excellent thriller that had me hooked from the start." (Katerina Diamond, author of The Secret, on Tell Me No Lies)

"A paranoia-inducing plot that makes you question everyone! Lisa Hall’s new novel is one to get under your skin and has an ending that’ll leave you reeling." (Sam Carrington, author of Saving Sophie on Tell Me No Lies)

The Party

I really enjoyed this novel and the narration was performed very well. This is my first Lisa Hall book however I would definitely try her again. my largest thing about the story line was it was very very good it was the absolute ending that left you with the cliffhanger. I believe if that cliffhanger had just been established just a little bit more in the storyline it would have took her from this audiobook being s three star storyline to a 5star storyline... otherwise it was a perfectly enjoyable title.

Persistence pays off: Suspenseful & worthwhile

I’m on my second listen of “The Party” by Lisa Hall, and this time, I was hooked from start to finish. This time I was hooked immediately! Initially, with my first time, I struggled to connect with the story, but persistence paid off then. After a few attempts, the narrative finally captivated me, and I’m glad I gave it another chance. The author’s suspenseful storytelling is expertly complemented by Georgia Maguire's engaging narration, making for a compelling tale. The payoff is well worth the investment of time. I purchased this audiobook for $8.94, and it was worth every penny – I didn’t even use a credit. I highly recommend “The Party” for its suspenseful and engaging storytelling. Hall and Maguire make a great team, delivering a deviously audicting experience and jaw-dropping shocker of a surprise ending. Epic, indeed!

Good Mystery and Good Narration

Story moved at a fast pace from the first few moments of the story until the very end. I have to admit, that I did not guess who the "bad" guy was until nearly the end. Which for me is a plus. There were also some very good subplots going on at the same time. I had no problem distinguishing between each of the story lines and their characters. Overall, I give this a solid four out of five stars all the way around.

Triggering for sexual assault victims

Overall, I really liked this book. I've read is twice so far. The story highlights how sexual assault victims are often blamed for the actions of their assailants. No wonder women don't come forward.

Trite Vicabulary

Nauseous, sour, bile…c’mon now. I felt like I accidentally hit the back 30 seconds arrow every few minutes.

Want a fun drinking game?

Take a drink, heck even a sip every time the narrator says the words “the party”. You will be wasted within 15 minutes. This book was pathetic, boring, meandered but seemingly went nowhere with a boring story and a droning on narrator I’m no rocket scientist but I figured out who the perpetrator was within the first four chapters. Save your credit!

The Party

This one is basically another story of a British amnesiac trying to figure out who attacked her at a New Year's Eve party. While I imagine that, I, too, would be going crazy not knowing who my assailant was, this didn't keep me from being irritated at her grilling her friends and neighbors about the events of the evening. I had a pretty good idea who the bad guy was, too. It was still entertaining enough for me to finish, and, while I'm glad it ended as it did, some may not like the open-endedness of it. The narrator is good, but her voice is a bit too "little girl" for some of the content.

Suspenseful

slightly (very slightly) disappointed in the ending but the story was very suspenseful and constantly made you think, what if this was me? what would I do?
