Would the God of love revealed by Jesus really consign the vast majority of humankind to a destiny of eternal, conscious torment? Is divine mercy bound by the demands of justice? How can anyone presume to know who is saved from the flames and who is not?

Women were there. For centuries, discussions of early Christianity have focused on male leaders in the church. But there is ample evidence right in the New Testament that women were actively involved in ministry, at the frontier of the gospel mission, and as respected leaders. Nijay Gupta calls us to bring these women out of the shadows by shining light on their many inspiring contributions to the planting, growth, and health of the first Christian churches.

Beautiful isn’t likely the first word that comes to mind when we think about sex. Our reactions are as varied as our experiences and backgrounds. Around us, our culture is divided by this topic. On one side, “progressive” voices seek to dismantle historic Christian teachings to fit current norms. On the other side, “conservative” voices can reinforce messages of shame, judgement, and repression. Beautiful Union offers a third way, one that is both true and beautiful.

Story
Elisabeth Elliot was a young missionary in Ecuador when members of a violent Amazonian tribe savagely speared her husband, Jim, and his four colleagues. Incredibly, prayerfully, Elisabeth took her toddler daughter, snakebite kit, Bible, and journal...and lived in the jungle with the stone-age people who killed her husband. In this authorized biography, Ellen Vaughn uses Elisabeth’s private, unpublished journals, and candid interviews with her family and friends, to paint the adventures and misadventures God used to shape one of the most influential women in modern church history.

He asks us to join him in inviting God to challenge our presuppositions, to set aside our biases and backgrounds and fears.

It was a conversation with agnostic journalist Douglas Murray that led Brierley to investigate whether a change was on the horizon.

With substance, clarity, and compassion, Favale teases out the hidden assumptions of the gender paradigm and exposes its effects. Yet this book is not merely an exposé—it is also a powerful, moving articulation of a Christian understanding of reality: a holistic paradigm that proclaims the dignity of the body, the sacramental meaning of sexual difference, and the interconnectedness of all creation.

Publisher's summary
In this insightful, nonpartisan roadmap toward faithful political engagement and ultimate allegiance to Jesus, pastor Joshua Ryan Butler diagnoses the roots of political conflict tearing apart the church and prescribes a practical and prophetic way forward.
“A must-read for any and all who seek the way of Jesus.”—Jay Kim, pastor and author of Analog Christian
Have you noticed a deeper level of political division in your community or church? If so, you’re not alone. This powerful, accessible book exposes the religious nature of modern political movements and how they compete with faithfulness to Christ.
Rather than retreat from the political realm, The Party Crasher will help you understand the politics of our age and equip you with the wisdom to faithfully navigate them. Key takeaways include:
• How to develop a Christian posture for political life and promote unity in the church.
• When to be bold.
• How to identify and repent from our political idols.
• How the way we worship can help us avoid division.
This is not a book about putting politics aside, it’s a book about putting politics in their place so that we might be better disciples of Jesus in whichever party or place we find ourselves.
Critic reviews
“The Party Crasher is a must-read for any and all seeking the way of Jesus amid the fractured mess we find ourselves in today. I love the prayer that Josh invites us into—God, give us soft hearts and steel spines—in this timely and all-important book.”—Jay Kim, pastor of WestGate Church (San Jose, California) and author of Analog Christian
“Politics is the new religion. In the first century, no one separated politics and religion. In the twenty-first century, we assume they’re divided. But they’re not. Josh Butler explores the culture war as a religious war, driven by idols and ideologies, showing how kingdom-centered peacemaking could transform our tribalized moment.”—Patrick Miller, co-host of the Truth Over Tribe podcast, co-author of Truth Over Tribe, and pastor at The Crossing (Columbia, Missouri)
“The Party Crasher boldly and compassionately addresses the pain and tension political division has wreaked upon our country, churches, and interpersonal relationships. Josh casts a gripping vision of what it looks like to live with conviction in our cultural moment, by exposing the core ideologies of the political religions which call for the allegiance of our hearts, to subvert our bow and pledge loyalty to Jesus as the Ultimate King.”—Bre Golden, pastor of community care at Park Hill Church (San Diego, California) and co-founder of Waves Ministries

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Story
The book of Enoch was thought to be lost for over 2,000 years until, in 1773, a traveller brought three copies back from Ethiopia. Whether or not this ancient book was actually authored by Enoch, the father of Methuselah and great-grandfather of Noah, is an ongoing debate among historians and theologians. But all recognise the book of Enoch as one of the most important apocalyptic works outside of the Bible.

Story
Mystics and sages have long maintained that there exists an interconnecting cosmic field at the roots of reality that conserves and conveys information, a field known as the Akashic record. Recent discoveries in vacuum physics show that this Akashic field is real and has its equivalent in science's zero-point field that underlies space itself. This field consists of a subtle sea of fluctuating energies from which all things arise: atoms and galaxies, stars and planets, living beings, and even consciousness.

Story
Turning the other cheek does not mean standing by while the enemies of God dismantle Christian civilization and brainwash our children. Decrying the cowardice that masquerades as meekness, Eric Metaxas summons the Church to battle. An attenuated and unbiblical “faith” based on what Bonhoeffer called “cheap grace” has sapped the spiritual vitality of millions of Americans. Paying lip service to an insipid “evangelism,” they shrink from combating the evils of our time. Metaxas refutes the pernicious lie that fighting evil politicizes Christianity.

The secret to happiness is to acknowledge and transform suffering, not to run away from it. Here, Thich Nhat Hanh offers practices and inspiration transforming suffering and finding true joy. Thich Nhat Hanh acknowledges that because suffering can feel so bad, we try to run away from it or cover it up by consuming. We find something to eat or turn on the television. But unless we’re able to face our suffering, we can’t be present and available to life, and happiness will continue to elude us.

Often, the accusations are fair. Christians tend to get stuck in one of two political ditches: we either privatize our faith or make it partisan. We think religion and politics should be separate and never intermingle, or we align so tightly with a political party that we conflate the gospel with a human agenda. In Political Gospel, Patrick Schreiner argues Christianity not only has political implications but is itself a politic.

Do you feel exhausted by tribalism? You aren't alone. As culture warriors divide the world into us and them—fracturing families, friendships, and churches—most of us long for an end to the constant fighting. But does a practical path exist? Jesus lived in a culture split by tribalism, but he resisted its allure by choosing something bigger: truth. He's now inviting you to apply his ancient path to the modern culture war. How would your community change if you became a catalyst for Christlike unity? Rejecting tribalism is the first step.

Practical, Personal
Josh shares real stories about how his church endured well through the political season. He gives very straight forward examples to try yourself and in your context. You can tell he cares about his community. He doesn’t tell you who to vote for, but encourages you to love both sides well. Also not all authors should read their own books, but Josh crushed this!
I highly recommend this very accessible book on politics to individuals, small groups or whole churches to help steward the American political season well.

Political Parties Are Made To Be Crashed If Done Like Jesus.
There are many good books on Christians in politics. I’ve read quite a few. This is one I would read again. The concept of being a party crasher like Jesus is a good one along with the four political religions. Many good practical ideas for how Christians can be involved in politics not just to make a point but to make a difference. Highly recommend.

Not Bad
When I listened to the first part of this book, I was a little concerned that it would not be as engaging and well-thought out as some of his other books. However, the chapters got better as the book went on.
What Josh does really well is explain his own experience to provide ample examples of practical commitments to keep. This is not a book that critiques political theories from a Christian perspective (see David T Koyzis “Political Visions and Illusions” for that). Neither is it a full length treatment of how to be formed rather than deformed during the political season (see The Liturgy of Politics by Kaitlyn Scheiss). But neither is it a political strategy for the faithful (see What On Earth are Christian’s For? By Jake Meador, or Letters to an American Christian by Bruce Riley Ashford, or God’s Politics by Jim Wallis, depending on your political persuasion). This is a little bit of all of those things, placed on a very accessible shelf for all of us.
What Josh has written is a thoughtful engagement that touches on several key themes to faithfully represent Jesus in a political year. Many of these themes I wanted to be teased out more. A few themes he could have hit harder on, but for brevity and clarity’s sake he did not. I suspect that Josh was writing to the lay level person and busy pastor who needs a fresh perspective that is neither partisan nor polarized.
To that end, this is a great start.

Joshua’s book is a great resource for those that want to more positively engage others in political discourse. It also gives an easy to understand framework to understand other political views. I’d recommend it!
