About this listen

The Penrose Triangle is Book 1 in a series.

In a ruined future split between those who have and those who do not, America has contracted like a singularity into a single city. There, citizens live under a divided society, split by five walls. At the center, their depraved leader, Gideon, rules with the iron fisted reach of propaganda and an oppressive governmental agency.

Outside the city walls Penny, an adopted young girl, farms a one ranch of many that provides food to the citizens of Mercury. There she has learned self reliance, and the ability to fix just about anything. Her family and identity are shattered when agents of the city come to collect. Once everything has been taken from her, she sets out for technologically advanced city on horseback to get revenge.

The whole of Mercury's government wants justice for her crimes, searching for her to put her in The Bowl, a futuristic automotive endurance race to the death where winning is the only way to escape the clutches of Mercury. Running from agents of the State along the way she meets other outcasts as she takes a journey that will redefine who she is, and answer the unknown questions about her strange and hidden origin.

The Penrose Triangle is book 1 in an in progress series by Dystopian author, Kris Clewell.

Binge listening

What is the audiobook equivalent of ‘couldn’t put it down’? Because that’s what happened to me. Purchased the audiobook of Penrose Triangle on Audible thinking it would last me a couple of weeks. Well, I ended up listening to the whole thing in two days. Kris’s setting the scene and storytelling is excellent, right up there with the classic dystopian future books we all love. I felt as if I was in this dystopian future myself. I can’t wait until the next book comes out!

Enthralling.

Excellent first novel from an unknown author. Clewell could easily be the best Chricton or Ludlow.
The story is familiar yet fresh, and almost uncomfortably believable. Where many post-apocalyptic societies in literature seem too fantastic or farfetched, the city-state of Mercury feels grounded and not at all a farfetched future reality based on our own trajectory.
Penny, the central character, gets caught up in a conspiracy she's been unknowingly been a part of since she was a small child. The novel sets up a larger story that I can't wait to unwind.

Written with soul

I started this just trying to support the 911 build, but I soon found this to be more than a podcasters mediocre attempt at a book. Despite being read by another; I heard Kris through every twist and turn painting the story. Excellent attention to detail, gripping immersion, and of course a real experience.

Thoughtful and detailed

The story is well written, with tactile details that paint a colorful picture of the lived-in, troubled world created by the author. The characters really come to life and provide a sense of depth, as if they were based on a real person. The voice acting performance is great. I'm looking forward to the next in this series.

Couldn’t stop listening

Loved this book!

The author skillfully weaves together themes of hope, despair, and vengeance to create a compelling narrative that keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. With each twist and turn, the story reveals new layers of complexity, adding depth and nuance to the characters and their motivations.

Overall, "The Penrose Triangle" is a masterful work of post-apocalyptic fiction that explores the depths of human resilience. If you are a fan of dystopian fiction then this book is a must-read. Looking forward to book 2.

Dystopain Kansas, Grease, Oil & Freedom

Enjoy the worlds of Mad Max, Death Race, Equilibrium or The Island? This is for you.

Throw in an epic narration performance and you won't be able to stop listening.

The authors love of all things mechanical clearly shows through with detailed descriptions and accurate interactions. A keen eye is given towards culture and what life as a self-sufficient, driven individual would be like under the boot of a non-caring conglomerate state that lives behind walls meant to contain, not protect.

Honestly. IT'S AWESOME. Stop reading this review - read/listen to the book.

See ya somewhere on the planes of Old Kansas
