Publisher's summary
Twenty-eight florins a month is a huge price to pay for a man to stand between you and the Wild.
Twenty-eight florins a month is nowhere near enough when a wyvern's jaws snap shut on your helmet in the hot stink of battle, and the beast starts to rip the head from your shoulders. But if standing and fighting is hard, leading a company of men - or worse, a company of mercenaries - against the smart, deadly creatures of the Wild is even harder.
It takes all the advantages of birth, training, and the luck of the devil to do it.
The Red Knight has all three, he has youth on his side, and he's determined to turn a profit. So when he hires his company out to protect an Abbess and her nunnery, it's just another job. The abbey is rich, the nuns are pretty, and the monster preying on them is nothing he can't deal with.
Only it's not just a job. It's going to be a war....
The Red Knight is the first book of The Traitor Son Cycle.

Story
A vibrant and powerful epic set against an alternate Bronze Age, this tale of gods, men and monsters, conspiracy and war, is a rich, compelling and original tale from a master of the historical and fantasy genres. The people caught up in toils of the gods are merely trying to survive. Victims of vicious whims, trapped by their circumstances or pushed beyond what the mortal frame can bear, a handful of god-touched mortals—a scribe, a warlord, a dancer and a child - are about to be brought together in a conspiracy of their own.

Macbeth: A Novel brings the intricacy and grit of the historical thriller to Shakespeare’s tale of political intrigue, treachery, and murder. In this full-length novel written exclusively for audio, authors A. J. Hartley and David Hewson rethink literature’s most infamous married couple, grounding them in a medieval Scotland whose military and political upheavals are as stark and dramatic as the landscape in which they are played.

A contemporary man, John Thornburn (a meek, non-violent and unpredictable artist) and woman, Derval (his tough, confrontational, strong and warrior-like lover) time travel to ancient Ireland to avenge a Viking attack. Packed with fascinating details of historical time and place in Irish history and delicately balanced on the border between realism and fantasy, the story centers around one of the most famous and beautiful illuminated manuscripts in history, the legendary but entirely real Book of Kells.

All legends are born of truths. And just as much lies. These are mine. Judge me for what you will. But you will hear my story first. I buried the village of Ampur under a mountain of ice and snow. Then I killed their god. I've stolen old magics and been cursed for it. I started a war with those that walked before mankind and lost the princess I loved, and wanted to save. I've called lightning and bound fire. I am legend. And I am a monster.

Many years ago, Sir Aelfric and his nine companions saved the world, seizing the Dark Lord's cursed weapons, along with his dread city of Necrad. That was the easy part. Now, when Aelfric—keeper of the cursed sword Spellbreaker—learns of a new and terrifying threat, he seeks the nine heroes once again. But they are wandering adventurers no longer. Yesterday's eager heroes are today's weary leaders—and some have turned to the darkness, becoming monsters themselves. If there's one thing Aelfric knows, it's slaying monsters. The great city of Ebora once glittered with gold. Now its streets are stalked by wolves. Medieval romance meets epic fantasy.
An intriguing story and satisfying overall. It's not quite a secondary world, not quite secret history, but somewhere in between. At first it can seem like just lazy world building, but it soon becomes obvious that there's intention to it. As a fan of both fantasy and medieval historical fiction, I found it enthralling.
There are some superficial similarities to A Song of Ice and Fire, but the voice and tone are very different. The plot revolves around a siege of a fortified abbey on the frontier between Christian civilization and "The Wild," a realm of monsters and magic.
Matthew Wolf is superb and Cameron's prose is solid and sometimes even poetic in a sparse way. Despite the books length, it never seemed to feel like a slog, and each scene moved the plot forward. My main complaint is that it badly needed an editor to remove every instance of "he shrugged," as it's peppered into almost every conversation.

The Red Knight
The book and premise are good although is some parts it kind of hard to keep track of who their talking about at any given time. The premise is quite different from most epic fantasy books I have been use to. I'm Jordan, Sanderson fan. There are a few more but you get the idea.

1st book is good but goes downhill from there
Would you listen to The Red Knight again? Why?
Yes.
What did you like best about this story?
Everything. The problem I have with the series is that it is too compressed. Magic wielders who have had limited abilities for years or decades all the sudden find there powers increased 20 fold in a matter of weeks or months. It felt forced...as if the author had an outcome and had to get to it within a year or two of book time. Not even buying the fourth book
Any additional comments?
Disappointed in the series. Have never enjoyed a first book and then developed no desire to read the last book before.

Magnificent!
This book had me hooked from start to finish. Unforgettable characters and don't even get me started on the battles. Highly detailed and I could see them in my mind. Miles Cameron is definitely a new favorite of mine.

True Medieval Fantasy
Long style epic fantasy with interesting characters and big battle scenes. I like that the book has a satisfying ending and sets up the next in the series.

Enjoying read
Great weave of characters and very engaging story. The author expertise in armor and medieval weaponry is evident. Looking forward to number three this July.

Great!
I thoroughly enjoyed this one. It checked all the fantasy boxes like magic, monsters, and intrigue, while adding a thread of reality (our reality anyways) that made it interesting. My only criticism is that sometimes the character pov jumps so rapidly in some parts that it's easy to miss which character you're currently following. Other than that, I'm excited to move on to the next book on the series!
