About this listen

An accessible, heart-melting romance that also tackles serious issues for teen girls today, from the author of Playing the Player.

Romance book blogger Vivian Galdi is a girl on a mission: the Replacement Crush Mission. After Jake the Snake pretends their secret summer kissing sessions never happened, Vivian creates a list of safe crush targets, determined to avoid anyone who pings her zing meter. But nerd-hot Dallas, the new guy in town, sends the mission and Vivian’s zing meter into chaos. While designing software for the bookstore where Vivian works, Dallas wages a counter mission, analyzing his target and taking advantage of the tactical errors in her strategy.

Does Dallas just like a good game of Replacement Crush Battlefield, or is he on his own mission to prove to Vivian that true love can’t be strategized? And how much collateral damage can they both sustain during the heat of battle?

Amazing

This book was heartfelt, giggling, and yelling at Viv to stop fighting the chemistry. I really enjoyed this and the narrator was amazing with conveying the emotional turmoil of Viv. Loved it.

Two hours too long

It was a cute and lovely story but around the mark where I had 2:30hrs and mins left she was pissing me off. Like just tell him how you feel and stop running away. She runs away from all conflict and never apologizes. Then when Mcnerd admits his feelings she says idk, he then dates someone?? Like I understand not waiting but dating??? Also how the heck did she think he moved on the fool literally dumped his guts out. 🙄 The whole Spock thing was what really got me, she should’ve beeeeeeeen ignored him. It honestly made me want to turn the audio book off. If it had not been dragged out for so long my review would’ve been higher. I should’ve read them before listening. I honestly don’t think I would’ve listened had I previously read them. ~J

Good but…

Spoilers

It dragged on more than was necessary and then had the whole assault and sexual assault be brushed under the carpet was like WTF?

Awesome narrative

I loved the story but Emily Lawrence did a fantastic job as the narrator. Between Lisa and Emily it was really easy to be immersed in the story and feel what the characters were going through. I loved the “movie” they had going through my mind as I was listening to the book.

cute story

I really enjoyed this book. It does touch on bullying and body issues. It also points out flaws people have.

Trigger warning

Not my favorite narrator generally, and definitely too old sounding for a high school character. Mostly cute and entertaining story, but it needed a trigger warning. I wasn’t expecting the assault dynamic, and it shook me out of an otherwise cutesy stress free feel that I wanted out of this book.

Two Too Long

I’m two hours out from finishing and I’m starting to get seriously annoyed with so much of this story. 1) the half finished sentences or pauses being taken by everybody!! 2) the heroine running away from confrontation after starting it or just being an ass to people when she just needed to use her words. It happened way too often with her to not start irking me 3) the mental monologue got repetitive and could have been cut

Will I finish, yes. Just mad-it was such a cute premise and romance up until it went two hours too long.

+: I’m a romance book nerd too, love mcnerd, like the main heroine is thicc, like the girl squad vibez. Loved the secondary male characters who were friends to her-so cute

Interesting but too long

Although the book was interesting, it should have ended 2 to 3 hours earlier. It became redundant. the protagonist vacilated, too much.

The voice…maybe it’s just me

I struggled with this book for many reasons. The first was Dallas’ voice, it sounded like Alexa or Siri. Very robotic and no emotion, I did my best to look past it but be warned about that. Second, I wasn’t aware that this was before the bookworm crush and read out of order. That wasn’t a big deal, my issue was the clear cut fact that the author didn’t recall what she wrote in book 1, so book 2 had things that didn’t add up. Nothing really coincided with each other, the timeline was wrong, the friendship wasn’t correct, relationships with each other didn’t even add up, if you don’t care about those details then it was alright.

It was free.

I hate to give a semi bad review to a free audible, but the story went on for two hours longer than it had to and was flat out torture at some points. I almost quit listening to my first ever book, but I’m stubborn.
