Story
From the towering heights of Olympos Mons on Mars, the mighty Zeus and his immortal family of gods, goddesses, and demigods look down upon a momentous battle, observing - and often influencing - the legendary exploits of Paris, Achilles, Hector, Odysseus, and the clashing armies of Greece and Troy. Thomas Hockenberry, former 21st-century professor and Iliad scholar, watches as well. It is Hockenberry's duty to observe and report on the Trojan War's progress to the so-called deities who saw fit to return him from the dead.

This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

Can't believe it's over, but as one reviewer suggested, wait a year or two and enjoy the whole thing over again!
There's a reason this work is a Hugo and Locus award winner. What a rolliking, yet dark, no holds barred romp through time and space!
Thanks Dan and Victor for such a satisfying and superior piece of entertainment.

one tenth of one point taken for *spoilers* the voice he used for Silinas' mechanically enhanced voice. Didn't care for that choice. Other than that, engaging and emotional.

Great Wrap Up to a Series that just Barely Kept Me
I enjoyed the first Hyperion but I didn't know if I would think the whole series was worth it. The key mysteries of this universe kept pulling me back in and this book did an amazing job tying everything up, answering my questions, and satisfying the wrap up. the narrator is great and brings life to some of the characters, especially the poet.

What an ending!
This this is the best sci-fi book series I had the pleasure to listen to. Dan Simons is a genius.

Great Ending to a Great Series
This whole series is an amazing exploration in both sci-fi and philosophy. It really made me pause and think multiple times about how we as people should view the universe and our place within it. Truly fantastic. I would absolutely recommend anyone to read this whole series.
With that said, I feel like I really have to get this off my chest: Raul is one of the most annoying characters in a book I have ever read. It was so strange how painfully dumb he was throughout the entire journey. Every single other character felt alive and important. But then Raul would butt in and ruin the moment. There were several times I would groan / scream out loud at my frustrations in listening to his thoughts.
He was obviously needed for a plethora of reasons as a character but in the end he felt so forced. I still give everything five stars because the story deserves it.
*spoiler* Yes, Raul, you were / will obviously be the father, why is that so hard to conceptualize when YOU KNOW THE SHRIKE TRAVELS THROUGH TIME AND SPACE. Holy crap dude, get over it!
