Publisher's summary
A blizzard has hit England. In the tiny village of Sittaford, on the fringes of Dartmoor, a party of six is gathered in Sittaford House, home of Captain Trevelyan. He has rented the house out for the winter and is staying in a nearby village.
As evening draws in, a seance is proposed. But it reveals more than they had anticipated - TREVELYAN DEAD, spells out the board. Slowly the table begins to rock again, spelling out the word M-U-R-D-E-R. Is it true? And who would kill a man who doesn’t have an enemy in the world?
John Moffatt and Stephen Tompkinson star in a BBC Radio 4 full-cast dramatisation of a classic from the Queen of Crime.

Set in 1916, we meet Captain Hastings as he is invalided out of the Great War and goes to convalesce at Styles Court, the family home of his great friend, John Cavendish. By an extraordinary coincidence, billeted in the village is a brilliant little retired detective with an egg-shaped head, who made a considerable impression on the Captain when he was in Belgium. Styles is not a happy household and in the blistering summer heat, tensions mount.

Story
Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent. Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down.

By an extraordinary coincidence, billeted in the village is a brilliant little retired detective with an egg-shaped head, who made a considerable impression on the Captain when he was in Belgium. Styles is not a happy household and in the blistering summer heat, tensions mount.

Totally Enjoyable
The performances were superb! I knew the story, but the performances made it new and more enjoyable. Rarely do I listen to a book more than once; this will be the exception. I look forward to more full cast productions.

The Dramatization made you feel like you were listening to a movie.
Excellent dramatization. Great story telling by another lady other than Ms Marple. Very good mystery, well thought-out by Agatha Christie. I had not heard of this book, but it was up there with all the rest of Christie's winner's.

A Storm, A Seance, and Murder
One of Dame Agatha's lesser known stories, this one is set in Dartmoor during a freezing winter storm. A mysterious message received during a seance leads to a suspicion that a murder has been committed and points to a weak-minded nephew. His ingenious and resourceful fiancee enlists an ambitious reporter to aid her in finding out the truth.

Death by Misadventure
Would you listen to The Sittaford Mystery (Dramatised) again? Why?
Yes. I have listened to it several times. It is a clever mystery.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sittaford Mystery (Dramatised)?
The table turning.
What about John Moffatt and Stephen Tompkinson ’s performance did you like?
All the voices were distinct and fit the characters. I could visualize the scenes.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, every time.
Any additional comments?
Emily is a plucky heroine. I liked her interactions with the other characters. Good non-series short story.

These BBC Efforts Never Disappoint!
Look for this title to pop up on sale and grab it at discount! The cast does credit to small-town British evils, with even pacing and careful plot development. A murder occurs in wintry conditions, and possible culprits abound!
