Other pages were thin and desiccated, positively yellow from age, and crackled alarmingly as Van Richten turned them over. There were no ornate illuminations, no fussy borders, only lines of plain text in hard black ink. The flowing handwriting was a bit difficult to follow at first; the writer's style of calligraphy had not been in common use for 300 years. No table of contents, but from the dates it looked to be some kind of history.

Before the War of the Lance... The Companions have gone their separate ways, each vowing to return with news of the growing darkness in Ansalon. Sturm Brightblade, a warrior whose honor is his life, and Kitiara, a passionate woman of uncertain loyalties, travel north in search of Sturm's long-lost father. Before they reach their destination, a band of gnomes begs for their help. But nothing with gnomes ever goes as planned. a superb story with intriguing characters. Beware, that this book may spark an interest in all thing Dragonlance. this, the first book in chronological order. Soulforge sets the stage for all that is to come, and it is magnificent.

The Life of a Great Mage
This book is well worth the time and energy. It is extremely easy to get lost in the life story of Raistlin and loose all track of time.

A surprising find!
Would you consider the audio edition of The Soulforge to be better than the print version?
I wouldn't know, I only listened to the book. But the audio narration was expertly done. The voice of the narrator is a perfect fit.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Soulforge?
When the main character is given a test by his master. I loved the development of this character throughout the book. Even though it is a fantasy, the progress of the main character in learning magic is slow - almost like a realistic look. He has had to work hard for his knowledge, he doesn't just wake up one day and have power like so many other books.

Fantastic adventure!
Tells the story of one of the best characters in the Dragonlance world. The narrator Chris Sorensen is FANTASTIC! I listened on my drive to college daily(35 mins one way) and never stopped listening.

Truly spellbinding.
The narration and pace of the book left me yearning to listening some more. When I had moments, I used them to continue on with this book.

Loved the story, but I'm not a 2nd grader
I have always loved the Dragonlance books, and Raistlin is by far my favorite character. But the narration sounded as if he was reading to a class full of grade schoolers. It just didn't have the dark edge you would expect from a story about this character.
