Resumen del Editor
Each year, more than 50,000 US families receive an autism diagnosis. On top of turmoil and worry, they share the same urgent question: What can we do to help our child?
The answers parents find can be contradictory...even dangerous. The conventional approach (employed by too many pediatricians) is to medicate difficult behaviors into submission - suppressing symptoms while leaving underlying health challenges untouched. Surfing the Internet for alternatives just leads to confusion.
Now, Dr. Janet Lintala, founder of the Autism Health center and an autism mom herself, shares the natural protocols used in her practice to dramatically improve the function and well-being of children on the spectrum. Drawing on the latest research developments, as well as personal and clinical experience, she targets the underlying issues (chronic inflammation, oxidative stress, gastrointestinal dysfunction, immune dysregulation) associated with the behavior, bowel, and sleep problems so common to autism.
Correcting these overlooked conditions with digestive enzymes, probiotics, antifungals, and other nonpsychiatric treatments brings transformative results: less pain, less aggression, and a child who is more receptive to behavioral and educational interventions.
While the medical profession is slow to change, autistic kids need help immediately. The Un-Prescription for Autism provides clear explanations, detailed protocols, and examples to help parents act quickly to restore their child's health, self-control, and language - paving the way for reaching their full potential.

Never before have women been in such a hurry to do so many things and be there for so many people. The pace of modern life has drastically increased - but even though our minds can go faster and technology allows us to get more done, our bodies still have cavewoman-like biology - which means they cannot respond healthily to the new and constant pressures we experience. In this book, nutritional biochemist Dr. Libby Weaver explains how a stressful, fast-paced lifestyle can have dangerous effects on all areas of a woman's health.

What is autism: a lifelong disability or a naturally occurring form of cognitive difference akin to certain forms of genius? In truth, it is both of these things and more - and the future of our society depends on our understanding it. Wired reporter Steve Silberman unearths the secret history of autism, long suppressed by the same clinicians who became famous for discovering it, and finds surprising answers to the crucial question of why the number of diagnoses has soared in recent years.

Historia
Autism therapy typically focuses on ridding individuals of “autistic” symptoms such as difficulties interacting socially, problems in communicating, sensory challenges, and repetitive behavior patterns. Now Dr. Barry M. Prizant offers a new and compelling paradigm: The most successful approaches to autism don’t aim at fixing a person by eliminating symptoms, but rather seeking to understand the individual’s experience and what underlies the behavior. Rather than curb these behaviors, it’s better to enhance abilities, build on strengths, and offer supports.

Historia
Everyone seems to agree that we have an epidemic of what is diagnosed as autism. But, in the history of our society, there has never been "an epidemic" of any developmental or genetic disorder. Yet, over the span of thirty years, autism has gone from affecting one in 5,000 children to one in 90, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. So what is this "autism", which has come to affect the lives of so many?

So much heart and hope
I am a grandmother who has four grandchildren living downstairs with my daughter. Three of them are on the autism spectrum. We have started with enzymes and will be adding probiotics. We need to address poor eating habits. They often only want to eat chicken nugget happy meals and would live on buttered noodles if we let them. This book has given us hope and wonderful direction.
Since starting with the enzymes, homeopathic sleep remedies and melatonin our five year old insomniac is falling asleep between 10:30pm and 11:30pm! A great improvement from the usual 3:30 to 4:30 am sleep time when he would crash. We would have to carry him to the bus asleep to go to pre-school. There they had a little round dog bed where he would sleep the day away, waking about an hour before the bus came to take him home. His younger brother is in the same class. He also loves his tablet, and wants to go to bed with it. We are working on that too.
Dr. Lintala took the time out of her busy schedule to respond to my questions when I quickly tried putting the three year old on probiotics and enzymes all at once...no, no, no...read at least through chapter 6 first. You do NOT want to start all at once. Three year old Joseph had such gas, he was screaming in pain, and his bottom was redder than Rudolph's nose! Dr. Lintala pointed out you have a specific protocol...you are introduce each supplement gradually. Her kind and prompt response saved the three year old from any more pain. Plus, the book gives advice on organization and much more.
This book is a must have. I highly recommend it. I already see results.

Great strategies for managing autism
I enjoyed this audio version and I will purchase the actual book because it's a great resource to return to. As a NP and autism mom, I found the information very useful. I was happy to learn I was already doing many of the suggested interventions, but i realized there were important components of treatment that I was missing. This book is not about "curing" autism, but rather introducing simple strategies that can improve quality of life by reducing discomfort and minimizing behaviors.
