Dorothy Martin's husband, a local police inspector, is out of town. On a trip to London for a doctor's appointment, Dorothy talks to a young man who, by the time the train reaches Victoria Station, is very dead. No one seems to think anything is amiss and the man who told her he was a doctor and would take care of everything seems to have done just that. The body has disappeared. Dorothy has a mystery on her hands and, with her husband in Zimbabwe, there's nothing to do but begin an investigation. She insinuates herself onto the staff of a computer software company and discovers not only a surprising killer but the lengths to which someone might go for the sake of a dream.

Entertaining, Easy Listen

For relaxing listening "cozy" mysteries are my favorites. The characters must appeal to me, the story must move along at a slightly brisk (though not break neck) speed, and there must be enough plot twists to hold my interest. This book met all my requirements. I had a thoroughly good time listening to it.
Narrator Kate Reading is excellent. I like the tone of her voice, and her diction is clear. She adds interest and energy to the story.
The only thing I slightly disliked was that the main character, Dorothy Martin, is an "amateur" sleuth who puts herself into a potentially dangerous situation to solve the crime. However, this is fiction, and all in good fun. I liked Dorothy so much I was only mildly bothered by her boldness.
There are more books in this series available on Audible and I expect I will listen to all of them.
This is not a "thriller". It does not include graphic violence or sex. If you enjoy English "cozies", this book is a good choice.

This is my first book by Jeanne M. Dams and I enjoyed it. Dorothy Martin is an American ex-pat in England married to a retired British police inspector. In this book she solves a murder and software pirating at a London office of a Palo Alto company. Lots of descriptions of London and nearby towns. Also some description of the different accents such as America, British and Canadian. This is a short fast pace story that left me feeling relaxed and happy. I had recently finished a book that left me exhausted and down so this was a nice change of pace. Sort of an old fashion British murder mystery book. Kate Reading did a great job narrating the story.

Entertaining light mystery

What did you like best about this story?

A good mystery but no violence to speak of. Every one was quite civilized--even the murderer. (Especially the murderer)

When Dorothy and friends were prowling around the offices where she was a fake receptionist to find evidence to accuse a murderer

Typical "cottage" type English mystery except the heroine is American by birth and this took place in London. Have enjoyed her other books very much which on the whole I liked better.
Character development was a bit weak in some instances.

Very good read

Love the story and the reader. This was my first Audible buy several years ago. I’ve listened to this one many times over the years, and it never disappoints.

Of course, Kate Reading is fantastic as always.
