Lao Tzu
About this listen
I didn't set out to create a new translation of the Tao Te Ching when writing The Way. Since Lao Tzu wrote it in the fourth century BC, it has become one of the most widely translated works in the world and hardly needs a new scholarly treatment.
Instead, I sought to capture the way the verses have come alive in me with language and metaphors that are more easily understood by a modern Western listener.

The most translated book in the world after the Bible, the Tao Te Ching, or “Book of the Tao,” is a guide to cultivating a life of peace, serenity, and compassion. Through aphorisms and parable, it leads readers toward the Tao, or the “Way”: harmony with the life force of the universe. Traditionally attributed to Lao-tzu, a Chinese philosopher thought to have been a contemporary of Confucius, it is the essential text of Taoism, one of the three major religions of ancient China.

The Tao of Tranquility is the definitive translation and explanation of the Qingjing Jing, the Taoist classic from the Tang Dynasty more than a 1,000 years ago. It has a special place in the history of Eastern thought, because it is the only sutra to weave Tao insights and Buddhist teachings together. This forms a wondrous tapestry of enlightenment and creates a synergistic fusion that is far greater than the sum of its parts. Now, for the first time, Western listeners can explore this ancient treasure and reap the benefits of its wisdom.

Sanskrit for "Song of the Lord", the Bhagavad Gita is a 700-verse Hindu epic that constitutes part of the faith's vast cornerstone work, the "Mahabharata." The book provides timeless truths and indispensable advice for believers trying to overcome internal tensions, doubt and indecision. The teachings are conveyed in the form of a dialogue between the Pandava general Arjuna and the deity Krishna, who helps Arjuna understand his position in the Kurukshetra War, and guides him towards the right course of action.

Story
Written more than 25 centuries ago, the Diamond Sutra is the first text to record the Buddha's own teachings, and it remains one of the most popular. Osho comments in a series of talks on these sutras and brings Buddha's teachings into the 21st century. One day, after the Buddha finishes his daily walk to collect alms, a senior monk steps forth to ask how he can best help humanity. Buddha responds, and thus begins a dialogue regarding the nature of perception.

Story
The Upanishads are often considered the most important literature from ancient India. Yet many academic translators fail to capture the work's philosophical and spiritual subtlety, while others convey its poetry at the cost of literal meaning. This new translation by Vernon Katz and Thomas Egenes fills the need for an Upanishads that is clear, simple, and insightful - yet remains faithful to the original Sanskrit.

Story
What would be the practical implications of caring more about others than about yourself? This is the radical theme of this extraordinary set of instructions, a training manual composed in the fourteenth century by the Buddhist hermit Ngulchu Thogme, here explained in detail by one of the great Tibetan Buddhist masters of the twentieth century, Dilgo Khyentse. In the Mahayana tradition, those who have the courage to undertake the profound change of attitude required to develop true compassion are called bodhisattvas.

Story
Uncover the core of goodness within. Love, compassion, meaning, hope, and freedom from fear are not qualities we need to acquire. We simply need to uncover what we already have. "Original goodness" is Eknath Easwaran’s phrase for this spark of divinity hidden in every one of us, regardless of our personal liabilities or past mistakes. Commenting on the Beatitudes from the Sermon on the Mount, Easwaran shows how this spark of divinity can energize our lives - beginning with a simple method of meditation that gradually removes the conditioning that hides our native goodness.

Moving beyond the usual interpretations of this classic Chinese text - that of using it as an indicator of what to do next or attempting to predict the future - Osho is using the Tao Te Ching as Lao Tzu intended: to ignite the flame of individual awareness and insight. His commentaries on these seven verses burn through every idea we may hold about ourselves until we can see with the same crystal-clear light as Lao Tzu.

Story
Here, Osho introduces listeners to this extraordinary mystic and his songs, bringing both to light in such a way as to show how they are both timeless and utterly relevant to our time. The path of love, as described by Osho and though the songs of Kabir, is a journey that seeks out and celebrates the divine that is hidden in the ordinary, the love that becomes not just a feeling one has but ultimately a state of being that one is.

Story
With silence increasingly becoming a stranger to us, one man set out to become its intimate: Pablo d'Ors, a Catholic priest whose life was changed by Zen meditation. With disarming honesty and directness, as well as a striking clarity of language, d'Ors shares his struggles as a beginning meditator: the tedium, restlessness, and distraction. But, persevering, the author discovers not only a deep peace and understanding of his true nature, but also that silence, rather than being a retreat from life, offers us an intense engagement with life just as it is.

Fully enjoy: Slow down the reading speed to the .75 rate
Slowing down the reading rate helped me linger on each statement and savour the authors wisdom. I also found the slower rate very soothing to listen to. Enjoy!

81 Verses of understanding differently
I love when the narrator of the book is either someone with a capturing voice that allows you to dive deep within the story or in this case it was the writer.
I had an opportunity to listen to these 81 verses and pick out a few that really resonated with me.
because this book is not very long I can always go back and listen to it whenever I feel I want to go into a meditative state.
I will say that this book is entertaining to those seeking this type of information otherwise the pace is a little fast and the information can appear to be cut and dry what I will say is most important is how you receive the message shared when it comes to this book.
