Not only for immigrants
This book captures the complexity of issues immigrants face in the corporate America. Starting with culture, language and race, through legal hurdles up to the struggle to find a true belonging.
Even though highly educated and skilled, immigrants often do not enjoy equal opportunities as they face personal, organizational and cultural obstacles. Understanding those is crucial not only to the immigrants, but also to the corporate leaders and other employees. Creating a system and culture, where differences are acknowledged, accepted and celebrated is a must in America's multinational and multiracial corporate society.
The true stories told in the book paint the picture of what is possible and what still needs to be done to make sure the talents and commitment of the immigrant employees are not wasted or ignored.
I think Lola's accent may be a novice or even a challenge for some, but I personally loved her Nigerian accent. It brings the book, and its description of the differences in cultures and languages to life.
