Publisher's summary

In the story, the multiethnic community of Wailuna Bay struggles to find safety as a tsunami races toward the islands, but to survive the crisis, they must overcome their own prejudices, class differences, and family conflicts.

If residents of this isolated coastal community are to survive, they must band together and seek refuge on the hillside land of an embittered, old milk farmer who wants nothing to do with his neighbors.

Despite their own sufferings - deaths of spouses, a father lost at sea, an abusive husband, and an estranged son - the community ultimately comes together, drawing on island traditions that always gave them strength.

Good Story with focus Hawaiian themes!

The story kept my interest, with good characters and Hawaiian references that brought me back to the islands. Billy Sage did a great job voicing the book. I loved that the author Robert Luck wove island themes into this fun read.

Perfect captures Hawaii! Easy read!

The narrator does an amazing job of all the voices and characters! And of course the audio book wouldn’t be strong without a good story behind it!

I didn’t grow up in this time period but being from Hawaii I can tell you it’s portrayal of Hawaiian local culture, dialect and history is spot on. I also find it fascinating to see how communities in the past dealt with natural disasters, particularly at a time when natural disasters are becoming more common. Super interesting and sometimes intense suspense but still plenty of humor to keep it lighthearted along the way. Fun read and definitely recommend!

Uplifting Story With Deep HI Roots

The pidgin voiceovers and local references really took me back! It's a slow build--not unlike the approach of a tsunami--but it came together really nicely in the end
