Publisher's summary

C. S. Lewis reworks the timeless myth of Cupid and Psyche into an enduring piece of contemporary fiction in this novel about the struggle between sacred and profane love.

Set in the pre-Christian world of Glome on the outskirts of Greek civilization, it is a tale of two princesses: the beautiful Psyche, who is loved by the god of love himself, and Orual, Psyche's unattractive and embittered older sister, who loves Psyche with a destructive possessiveness. Her frustration and jealousy over Psyche's fate sets Orual on the troubled path of self-discovery.

Lewis's last work of fiction, this is often considered his best by critics.

Genius Storytelling, Beautifully Read

If you ever wondered whether C. S. Lewis is an author of true genius, read this myth retold. It contains unforced religious themes, a deep anatomy of the human condition, and a compelling female protagonist to hold our interest throughout. Beautiful!

Highly recommended

Wow! I was thoroughly engrossed in this story. I’m sure I would’ve been lost had I read it however this narrator spoke so clearly and with a wonderful accent .

Different from expected

It was not what I expected from this author, but I thoroughly enjoyed the book! I don’t listen to many books twice but this is one I plan to listen to again.

I'd read everything CS Lewis wrote... except this

I managed to read Till We Have Faces without knowing a thing about it. I had zero idea where the story was going and enjoyed the ride. The narration is excellent. I think I know CS Lewis' "voice" but this sounds and feels different than any of his stories or essays.

My advice: read it but don't read up on it.

A Great Work that needs more than one reading

Wonderful work, but it really needs at least two read throughs as it is much denser than the first read through gives it credit for. It is definitely brilliant, but I am still digesting it. Highly recommend it to all

Absolute perfection!

Every time I read this book the more I love it. C. S. Lewis’ novels are the story forms of his philosophy books. Till We Have Faces is a combination of all of them, but probably first and foremost a story form of Four Loves. The first time I read Till We Have Faces I loved it but didn’t really understand it; however, the more books by Lewis that I read the more pieces of this book fall into place. It is beautiful and can stand alone on its own two feet, but it is breathtaking when sewn together with his other works.

The best reader

A very excellent work, read by an outstanding talent. The voice work is clean and subtle, and matches the feel of the story well.
