While there are many more fires that drive the human spirit, love being perhaps the brightest flame of all, it is these four that have moulded us most as Australian people. The four fires give us our sense of place and, for better or for worse, shape our national character.

This is Bryce Courtenay's moving tribute to his son, Damon, a hemophiliac who died from medically acquired AIDS on April 1, 1991, at the age of 24. April Fool's Day is controversial, painful and heartbreaking, yet has a gentle humor. It is also life-affirming, and, above all, a testimony to the incredible regenerative strength of love: how when we confront our worst, we can become our best. This tragic yet uplifting story will change the way you think.

Story
The modern audience hasn't had a chance to truly appreciate the unknowing dread that readers would have felt when reading Bram Stoker's original 1897 manuscript. Most modern productions employ campiness or sound effects to try to bring back that gothic tension, but we've tried something different. By returning to Stoker's original storytelling structure - a series of letters and journal entries voiced by Jonathan Harker, Dr. Van Helsing, and other characters - with an all-star cast of narrators, we've sought to recapture its originally intended horror and power.

Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

It was okay...
Where does Tommo and Hawk rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Roughly in the lower-middle.
How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?
More Mary Abacus.
Which scene was your favorite?
TMI-don't wanna give spoilers.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
Not the best sequel you'll ever see.
Any additional comments?
Other reviewers complained about too much sex. Honestly, considering that the two main characters are young adult men, there weren't very many sex scenes.
The narrarator was great.

Loved the story, hated the ending
I loved this story and the characters, but I really hated the ending. I will go on to the sequel, Solomon's Song however and hope and pray that it ends better than Tommo and Hawk.

Great book! Looking forward to the next one!
Where does Tommo and Hawk rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is one of the best books I've listened to. The writing is wonderful, so discriptive that it's easy to imagine each scence. The performance by Humphrey Bower was awesome. Each character had a distinct voice.
Which scene was your favorite?
The ending was a surprise. Wont say more.

Best book of the trilogy
What did you love best about Tommo and Hawk?
The characters are vibrant and full of depth.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Tommo and Hawk?
There is a character that dies that you find yourself missing all the way through the third book of the trilogy.
Which character – as performed by Humphrey Bower – was your favorite?
Tommo. He is continually tormented by the mongrels, but he has a constant and continual internal battle with himself that drives the story line.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, I did not cry, but numerous times I felt my heart sink as a could foresee the demise of some of the characters. In some cases it happened and in others it did not, but as mentioned before, one of the deaths was extremely sad.
Any additional comments?
This was definitely the most enjoyable of the trilogy, but all of the books are a great listen.
