Amazing how we can sabotage ourselves

Great book. Yes, it's a bit slow at times and yes it's not the author's best book, but it's got everything I need for 5 stars: a plot, great characters, intrigue , great timing and heart. I count a book as successful when I think about the characters when I'm done, and with this book I want desperately to drop in their lives and see how they have learned to cope. This is especially appealing if you've been a parent. Enjoy.

I finally had to stop listening

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No there's way too much conflict! Normally I love Moriarty's work but this one is just tooo much! Perhaps if I had chosen to read it instead of listen I might feel differently but with all the conflict and Caroline Lee's narration, it just got to be irritating. Caroline Lee should not be allowed anywhere hear an audio book!

What didn’t you like about Caroline Lee’s performance?

Her voice is irritating.

Not as good as her others

This book moved along too slowly for me, and it didn't make me care about any of the characters the way Moriarty's other books did. However, if you stick with it through the slow beginning, the book finally comes together in enough time to make the remainder of the book enjoyable and worthwhile.

Another very good book!

Enjoyed this book. This writer is quickly growing on me, and this narrator is among my favorite. I especially enjoy the way Moriarty gives us "who done it's" but not at all in the police procedural form. Her form is much more social.. We get our clues from the cocktail party, the school play, the barbecue rather than from the torn dress, the DNA, or the dimly scene malefactor. And when she adds the extra mystery of what exactly is going on, I'm finding myself sold from the first few pages! I also enjoy her use of multiple points of view. Unlike many who try this technique, she handles the complexities it adds to a story very well. She doesn't do it like Faulkner, but again, she comes at things more from a social perspective. It never feels canned or like a party trick. The narrator is wonderful. She uses multiple voices but not obtrusively so. In this book, her Eastern European male character became a bit grating, but that was because Moriarty overused him just a bit. Not exactly a classic but a very good listen. And I've already bought another one by this writer!

Exceptionally well written and read. The book started out, like all of them, with a mystery that unfolds....a guilty mystery.

Did not finish the book

I am generally a huge fan of this authors work, and I was really looking forward to this book. However, I haven't finished it and don't intend to. I have stopped at about chapter 17 or so, and just don't find the storyline very compelling at all. It just doesn't seem as though the book is building in any interesting direction. I am disappointed, but that's OK. Guess you can't love them all. The narration is mostly excellent, if a bit dramatic.

I love Liane Moriarty

I have read/listened to everything Liane Moriarty has published. I love her development as characters. I also love Caroline Lee as a narrator. It is a pleasure when the two of them combine wonderful forces in audio books.
It took longer for me to like the characters in this book than in past books. However, in the end I ended up loving them all.
This is a worthwhile listen in my opinion.

Decent book but not as suspenseful or powerful as her previous novels.

I love Leeanne Moriarty's books, they are always very suspenseful and moving, and really embody the human condition. This book definitely explore his relationships in detail, but I found it very slow moving, predictable, and unfortunately slightly boring. I still love this author, but this is definitely my least
